Vehicle Description Car No.
BA80S Earning a reputation for sporting and luxurious automobiles, The Stutz Motor Car Company was founded by Harry Clayton Stutz alongside his friend and experienced car-builder Henry F.
Campbell.
They would begin building cars under the name of the 'The Ideal Motor Car Company' in 1911 and soon enter their new design in the first ever Indianapolis 500.
After proving their design and eventually becoming the Stutz Motor Car Company in 1913, Stutz would continue to refine their models throughout the early 1920s.
It was during this period that the company became well known as a driver's car for the type of individual who could afford the finer things in life, but who preferred to be personally invested in them.
For 1928, Stutz would release their latest Model BB with a number of impressive enhancements proven during road and track use, utilizing their latest vertical-eight engine to earn Stutz the AAA title of Stock Car Champion in 1927 and a second place overall finish at the Le Mans 24-hour race.
Sporting an all-aluminum Cabriolet Coupe body by Phillips Custom Body Co.
of Warren, Ohio, this 1928 Stutz Model BB is powered by a Stutz vertical-eight engine rated at 115 horsepower in addition to Lockheed hydraulic brakes and single action lever-type shock absorbers providing an impressive driving experience expected from a splendid Stutz.
Crowned with the iconic Egyptian Sun God Radiator cap mascot, the exterior features dual side-mounted matching spare tires with sideview mirrors, twin Parabeam headlamps, Firestone deluxe champion gum-dipped whitewall tires, a rumble-seat, front and rear chrome bumpers, and a rear mounted luggage rack.
Acquired by The Gregorie Neck Collection around 2010, this CCCA Premier Senior National First Prize winning Stutz is finished in an elegant dark blue exterior with a blue canvas convertible top, a dark blue leather interior varnished with wood trim work providing an understated yet beautiful specification.
A CCCA Full Classic, these examples remain highly desirable among collectors for their plentiful showing and touring capabilities.
