Vehicle Description One of the most memorable and distinctive customs of the early post-war era, based on a matching-numbers Duesenberg J chassis and engine.
Believed to have been built by David Clark of Virginia, and later California, after the original sedan body was separated from the chassis.
Clark built his unique creation using early post-war Cadillac and Oldsmobile panels, and trim, along with recycled bits of the original Murphy coachwork and body fittings like door handles and the rear cockpit trim.
It survives with its original engine, chassis, and gearbox intact.
Throughout the years, J-462 has been owned by a series of prominent and influential collectors including M.
L.
Cohn, James Leake, and Homer Fitterling, earning its oversize steer horns and Big Cow sobriquet along the way.
It has been in the care of a devoted ACD collector and enthusiast for the past decade and remains in well-preserved condition.
Undeniably distinctive and undoubtedly controversial, J-462 is an important footnote in Duesenberg history, representing one of the earliest attempts to re-style the mighty Model J for the post-war era, and critically, ensuring the long-term survival of a genuine Model J chassis.
