a testament to its design and construction.
With his royal lineage, Charles Rolls partnered with working-class engineer Henry Royce in 1904.
By 1907, their new 40/50 hp model was given the name Silver Ghost for its painted aluminum silver exterior and ghost-like quietness.
After a 15,000-mile road test and inspection (which included traveling between London and Glasgow 27 times), the 40/50 was called the best car in the world by a press correspondent.
Rolls and Royce embraced this as a fitting slogan.
The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot was also introduced at this time and has remained the most identifiable symbol of the marque.
A total of 7,874 Silver Ghosts were produced, and only 1,500 survive today.
Many are owned by individuals who tour the world, confident in the durability and reliability of these magnificent machines.
This 1921 Rolls-Royce convertible, referred to as a Doctors Coupe, is an extremely rare find:
it is still fitted with its original body by F.
W.
Plaxton.
The English coachbuilder created coachwork for Rolls-Royce, Daimler and Sunbeam throughout the 1920s.
When the depression created difficulties for the manufacturers of luxury automobiles, the Plaxton Company survived by building motor coaches.
This British Silver Ghost was first imported into the United States in 2010 after a frame-on restoration.
Since that time, it has covered more than 12,000 miles touring with the Silver Ghost Association throughout the United States.
After each tour, it returns to Vintage and Auto Rebuilds of Ohio to prepare it for the next upcoming tour.
There, expert mechanics change the fluids, check tolerances and perform any service needed, and all maintenance invoices are available for review.
This stunning vintage 40/50 HP is the perfect car for touring.
It is one of the few Silver Ghosts with roll-up windows and a top that can be lowered and put back up by one person.
The pleated leather interior has been maintained nicely and is still in excellent condition.
The rare original two-piece fitted trunk comes with the car, and the rumble seat comfortably accommodates two adults.
In addition, all gauges are in good working order, as are all the electrics.
This iconic, rare Silver Ghost is ready to dominate any show or take over the road on a tour.
It will not only catch everyone's eye wherever it goes but is sure to be a show-stopper.
