Vintage Realistic Optimus T-100 Floor-Standing Speakers Made for sale in Brookline, MA

In the 1960s and 1970s, before Realistic became synonymous with "less-than-wonderful audio equipment," they made some gems. Well, actually, THEY didn't make any gems; other companies did so and Realistic slapped their Realistic/Optimus badge on them. In the mid-1970s, Realistic commissioned Pioneer's premier Japanese facility to design, engineer, and manufacture a floor-standing speaker that could do battle with any other mainstream, consumer-level floor-standing speaker in an A/B comparison test. The result was the Optimus T-100. The ones I have for sale have been babied since their purchase in 1977 - and they sound fantastic. Two active woofers and a wide-range tweeter ensure a balanced response from 55 to 18,000 Hz, with a crossover point at 3500 Hz. Unlike some other large high-performance speakers, the T-100 is efficient enough to make the most of almost any amplifier - so you get strong volume without pushing the amp. A three-way (normal, low, high) L-Pad control lets you add just the treble response needed to suit the acoustics of the listening room. When it comes to placement, you'll appreciate the elegance of their design. Because they don't have an "ugly side" (the terminals are on the bottom, as opposed to on the back), you can put them anywhere and they'll be aesthetically pleasing. They'll look just as good in the middle of a floor as room dividers as they will up against a wall as accent pieces. A phono jack and screw terminals are recessed on the bottom of the enclosure - so even the cable can remain hidden. The cabinets are constructed like fine pieces of furniture, with a genuine oiled walnut veneer exterior. Genuine oiled walnut veneer cabinet.
