1961 Gibson Mastertone TB-250 Gloss Sunburst Finish 4-String for sale in Richmond, VA

1961 Gibson Mastertone TB-250 Gloss Sunburst Finish 4-String Tenor Banjo Used - Very Good Condition Gibson banjos don't need any introduction as they were at the center of the banjo universe for decades. Unfortunately for now and for a variety of reasons (including the devastating 2010 Nashville flood), Gibson has stopped producing banjos with no announced plans to restart. This 1961 Gibson Mastertone TB-250 tenor banjo is in great condition, with no significant wear, especially given its age. This banjo packs quite a punch with great power and resonance and medium-low action. Featuring a 19-fret Brazilian rosewood fretboard with pearl bowtie inlays, block inlay on 19th fret engraved "MASTERTONE", 11´´ head, one piece flange, 24 brackets, stairstep tuners (working perfectly and keeping in tune) with white plastic buttons, and "Gibson" logo and crown headstock inlays, this American-made tenor looks as good as it sounds! The tailpiece is likely not original as the finish on it is much "brighter" then the chrome on the armrest, hoop, and flange, plus the headstock appears to have been professionally repaired as there is a crack in the finish that would indicate such a repair, however it is thin enough that it almost resembles the lacquer checking in the rest of the finish. With the price of vintage Gibsons always on the climb, now is the time to make this classic Mastertone tenor yours! Cosmetic and Functionality Description Body: the head is in great shape with just a few light scratches on it shape; the armrest, hoop, and flange show some light scuff marks, scratches and tarnishing in the finish, plus some of the hooks some small spots of rust; the inside of the rim has a number of holes drilled on the inside; the rim and resonator both show some light scratches, scuff marks, and dings--moderate to heavy buckle rash; the binding on the resonator certainly has an aged tint to it Neck, Fretboard, and Headstock: the fretboard looks almost flawless except for a small ding between the 17th and 18th frets along the treble side binding; the fretboard binding has the same aged tint as the resonator binding; the back of the neck has some noticeable dings, dents, and scratches that should not affect comfort or playability, plus there some really cool checking throughout the neck that is typical for an instrument of this vintage ; the headstock appears to have been professionally repaired as there is a crack in the finish that would indicate such a repair, however it is thin enough that it almost resembles the lacquer checking in the rest of the finish; the front, back, and sides of the headstock have some noticeable scrapes and scratches and show the same checking in the lacquer as that found on the neck, plus the headstocking binding also shows and aged tint in its color Frets: extremely light wear Action and Playability: the action is about medium-low, plus the neck is straight and the truss rod functions properly Hardware: the tailpiece is likely not original as the finish on it is much "brighter" then the chrome on the armrest, hoop, and flange; the chrome tuners show a heavy tarnished look and the plastic buttons have an aged tint with some small scratches on them Includes: 4-string tenor banjo (case/gig bag not included) Features 4-string tenor banjo 24-hook chrome rim and flange 11" head Metal tone ring Mahogany rim Bound mahogany resonator with gloss sunburst finish Mahogany neck Bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard White pearl "bowtie" inlays 19 frets Bound black headstock overlay Chrome tuners with white plastic buttons Chrome tailpiece (likely not original) Maple/ebony bridge Scale: 22-3/4" Nut width: 1-3/16" Weight: 10 lbs. 3 oz.
