Engineering Specialist - Manufacturing (Metallurgist)
Job Description & Qualifications
Position Title: Engineering Specialist-Manufacturing (Metallurgist)
Overview:
Woodhaven Stamping Plant is about to embark on its most exciting transformation since it was originally opened 50 years ago. New processes that are currently or will shortly be installed include but are not limited to new XL JIER Tandem Lines, State Of The Art Hot Stamping Lines and Laser cutting cells. All of these new processes will require highly skilled Engineering Specialists throughout the installation, launch and production phase.
Responsibilities:
Manage materials characterization laboratory in an industrial setting, including instructing unionized technicians, assigned to three shift operation (24/7)
Lead mechanical behavior characterization of materials to ensure stamping and roll-form capability and quality
Analyze materials, including tensile properties, surface roughness, lubricant weights and compare to specifications
Lead problem solving process of suspected materials issues related to surface and mechanical behavior
Direct suppliers, internal and external to meet quality expectations for materials
Manage part information in material database
Track performance history of parts versus material characteristics over time
Interface with internal customers to ensure alignment with the needs of stakeholders
Document findings via presentations and written reports
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma
3
years of experience with laboratory testing equipment (uniaxial tensile test machines, specimen milling machine, profilometer, and lubricant measurement equipment)
3
years of statistical analysis experience
Preferred requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience or certification in Tool & Die
Passion for quality and attention to detail
Demonstrated capability in data analysis, documentation and statistical methods
Experience managing UAW employees
