Quality Technician

Overview
The Quality Technician performs quality checks of raw, work in process, and finish product through inspection, laboratory analysis, organoleptic testing, and packaging status verificaion.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs analysis on receiving, processing, and packaging goods. Analyzes visual, organoleptic, weight, size, mix, moisture and/or salt.
Receiving: Performs incoming ingredient sampling and grading. Verifies trailer condition. Works with purchasing and scheduling in order to release product in a timely manner, or to receive a disposition for out of specification product.
Processing: Performs finished and in-process product analysis. Performs free fatty acid analysis on processing oil. Checks processing lines for type of product, correctness of labels, and date codes. Prints and verifies roaster temperature readings. Tests metal detectors for compliance. Performs ATP testing to assure proper cleaning. Performs pre-operational inspections on production lines.
Packaging: Performs analysis on packaging integrity and quality including: oxygen, vacuum, leaker, quantity and weight testing. Checks packaging lines for type of product, label accuracy, date codes, lids and over cap color. Test metal detectors for compliance. Performs ATP testing to assure proper cleaning. Performs pre-operational inspections on production lines.
Ensures data for analysis, holds and equipment check outs.
Prepares samples for analysis by consulting lab.
Holds out of specification products.
Performs any extra assigned duties as needed.
Is responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP and SQF requirements.
Is responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your manager.
Is responsible for partnering with others; Sharing knowledge, skills and information within your team and across functional areas.
Is responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.
Is responsible for cleaning equipment and utensils.
Complies with all safety and GMP rules.
Looks for any abnormal product or unsanitary conditions and informs others.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Food quality experience required.
Must be able to eat any snack product or nut variety.
Skills and Competencies:
Attention to detail.
Good record keeping.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
Basic math skills.
Ability to use the following: calculator, salt analyzer, analytical scale, moisture analyzer, oxygen analyzer.

In the event that the Quality Technician is absent, the Quality Supervisor is responsible for providing an equally qualified person to cover this position.
