We are seeking an Plant Accountant at our Lumber facility, located in Mexia, AL. Mexia is a small town located in the larger Monroe County, known as the Literary Capital of Alabama. Mexia is located in southwest Alabama, about halfway between the major cities of Montgomery and Mobile and about an hour and a half from the beaches of Pensacola.
Georgia-Pacific's building products business is North America's No. 1 producer of wood panels namely plywood and oriented strand board and is a leading producer of gypsum products and lumber. Georgia-Pacific is also a major supplier to large do-it-yourself warehouse retailers.
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
The Plant Accountant candidate must be able to able to work across departments and assist in the monthly financial closing process, working with the Controller to ensure proper internal controls are in place and working as designed, and support management with proactive financial analysis that drives improvement in results. Fiduciary Responsibilities
Perform financial closing procedures, variance analysis, and balance sheet account analysis.
Provide daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting.
Oversee working capital components, accounts receivable and inventories.
Manage days outstanding and inventory turnover.
Support the area controller in the development of capital and commercial requests and participate in the challenge process for investments.
Participate with operating and maintenance management in financial planning and reporting for capital investment and major expense projects.
Obtain a solid working knowledge of operation processes in order to partner with plant supervision.
Investigate and make recommendations that drive value at the facility.
Lead the internal control compliance effort at the facility. Assist in developing and maintaining a strong internal control processes and develop compensating controls where required. Conduct periodic assessments of the internal control processes to help identify and drive corrective actions.
Assist with A/P and payment system.
Validate and reconcile data between financial transaction systems and reporting systems
Analyze Storeroom activities, cycle counts, slow-moving/obsolete inventory, and capital spares
Records management
What you will Need:
Education:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business
Basic Requirements:
Basic understanding of a General Ledger and Cost Accounting principles
Conceptual understanding of the design and purpose of internal controls
Aptitude and desire for learning new systems and improving processes through automation
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (i.e. - spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data manipulation/analysis and formulas creation etc.) PowerPoint (presentation creation and editing) and MS Word (document creation, formatting and editing etc.)
Knowledge Skills - Abilities:
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong customer focus with analytical, financial, and economic thinking skills
Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
Flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
Ability to work in a team environment

Qualifications:
Accounting coursework that includes Intermediate Accounting and Cost Accounting highly desired
Minimum 3.0 GPA in Accounting Coursework
Experience as an Accountant or Analyst in a manufacturing environment
Experience in Public Accounting or Large Company Corporate Accounting
