Carpenter Powder Products (CPP), a division of Carpenter Technology Corporation, is one of the world's largest suppliers of spherical gas atomized powders that are produced through air, vacuum or pressurized melting in a full range of powder distributions. CPP's advanced powders have been used in a variety of coatings and components in aircraft engines, chemical equipment, medical devices, industrial gas turbines and food handling components, among other demanding applications. POSITION SUMMARY - Reporting to the Vice President and General Manager of Carpenter Powder Products (CPP). The Plant Manager is responsible for general supervision of all phases of plant operations including:
production, quality control, maintenance, receiving, and shipping. Responsibilities also include recruiting, hiring and training personnel and facility/physical plant up-keep and capital improvements. In addition the Plant Manager will be responsible for annual budget planning and execution. They will work closely with the production team to increase productivity and profitability within the manufacturing operations of CPP.

Provides leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility.
Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement.
Review established production schedules for all manufacturing departments to insure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible.
Coordinate the hiring and training of all manufacturing personnel.
Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
Work closely with EHS to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for our employees.
Maintain inventory levels and control flow of incoming WIP from other CPP locations.
Maintain and support a superior safety and 5S program, including all timely communication initiatives.
Develop and execute the plant manufacturing budgets.
Analyze workforce requirements.
Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations employees.
Build a culture of continuous improvement with an emphasis on developing Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practitioners in the operating areas.
Foster a culture where the employees who actually do the work are involved and engaged in HOW the work gets done.
Drive Culture Change-Drive fact-based decision making and teamwork throughout the organization.
Utilize careful process observation, and value stream mapping to identify and eliminate waste.
Accelerate improvement efforts with the use of proven tools and methods such as Kaizen Blitz.
Remove production constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals.
Communicate with R&D as well as product management teams to develop new product strategies.
REQUIREMENTS / CANDIDATE PROFILE
Bachelor degree in engineering or a related field is required. MBA or masters in engineering preferred. Six Sigma, Green Belt or Black Belt certification a plus.
The successful candidate will be a proven general manager with approximately 5-7 years of progressive business experience and a successful track record in managing a global industrial P&L. Atomized Spherical Powder (ASP) manufacturing experience is preferred.
A business mindset that is both strategic and tactical. This individual will have the capability to contribute to strategic discussions, while also rolling-up his/her sleeves to work though necessary initiatives and tactics.
Experience in product manufacturing and engineering-driven organizations is preferred.
Experience driving growth and building out organizational capabilities for a company utilizing a market facing organizational model.
Functional experience that blends operational responsibilities with capabilities in marketing and/or business development. This is a highly market driven individual with strong experience in customer relationship management.
Knowledge of manufacturing systems including computer systems, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems, and process control techniques.
Ability to direct and supervisor others, objectively evaluate performance and train / develop others. Ability to inspire, motivate and influence others.
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. Good problem solving and project management skills. Good time management and priorities management skills. Team player and have the ability to work in a fast-paced and ever changing environment. Good negotiation skills and a strong ability to influence others.
