The Morning Call is seeking an enterprising news reporter with a demonstrated ability to find stories of unique interest to Lehigh Valley readers, on legal issues locally, regionally and on the state level. This beat requires daily checking/coverage of local cased in federal courts, primarily, but not limited to, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (Allentown, Easton, Philadelphia and Reading). It also entails the daily tracking of state Commonwealth, Superior and Supreme courts as well as the U.S. Attorney's office. Coverage of federal law enforcement strategies, programs and trends also required.
Strong digital skills required, including extensive use of social media and experience with digital audience drivers and the ability to file fast, informative reports for Web. The candidate must be a strong storyteller who can find and deliver daily, short-term and long-term stories simultaneously and be able to write accurately under deadline pressure. Daily newspaper reporting experience, particularly in court reporting, preferred. Also available for occasional general assignment stories as warranted.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
