General Function:
Monitor the daily activities of the diagnostic department to ensure the generation of accurate data, and the execution of all quality control functions and programs. Provide effective training and education to new personnel. Perform laboratory functions including qualitative and quantitative analyses as necessary, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results, and release of final reports to the clients.
Characteristic Duties and
Responsibilities:
1.) Monitor and assist with providing in-depth, hands on training to new departmental personnel
2.) Monitor the quality of work generated in the diagnostics department
3.) Perform annual proficiency evaluations for all department personnel
4.) Contribute to annual performance reviews for all department personnel
5.) Communicate with department heads to ensure a timely and efficient work flow, and dissemination of critical information
6.) Comply with all laboratory policies and procedures, and maintain accurate records and documentation
7.) Document and investigate procedural deviations, and ensure compliance to standards
8.) Evaluate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure proper operation
9.) Ensure routine housekeeping functions are performed as scheduled
10.) Additional duties as assigned
Reporting Relationships:
Direction Received: Reports to Laboratory Manager
Direction Given: Assist in employee orientation and training in all aspects of diagnostic and microbiology laboratory operation, oversee daily work flow and employee job performance
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science or related field with 1 year of laboratory experience or five years of laboratory experience concentrated in diagnostic work and data interpretation. Demonstration of high performance and leadership abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Desirable Traits:
Overall knowledge of food microbiology including test methodologies, GLPs and the implication of test results to clients. Organizational skills and the ability to think on your feet plus the desire to be a productive team member who exhibits until the job is done is essential. Strict attention to detail and the ability to make sound independent decisions. Must have excellent communication skills and the have the ability to discuss and address client questions and concerns.
Working Conditions:
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting. Some exposure to unpleasant elements. Some element of personal risk due to handling of bacteria, chemicals, steam, and heat.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
