Title: Datacenter Technician II
Location: Fairfield, NJ
The Datacenter Technician II is responsible for the Installation, Decommissioning, Troubleshooting and Network Configuration of Switches, Routers, MGX and SUN equipment in live Data Centers.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
Hardware replacement
Network equipment and cable installation and decommissioning
Highly technical position requiring diverse knowledge of telecom and data center operations
Respond to alarm events affecting infrastructure and services caused by work being done by team in Datacenter at the time.
Working with critical infrastructure components
Responsible for the installation infrastructure in a live network environment
Manage inventory of equipment and tools
Provide leadership and training to junior team members
Qualifications (MUST HAVE)
Associates degree in Telecommunications or Information Technology. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a Datacenter environment - Strongly required.
Worked directly or as sub in the Datacenter for one of the following companies Time warner, Verizon, Cablevision or Comcast or Equivalent
Advanced knowledge of critical infrastructure components such as Racks, labeling, commercial UPS, switches, routers, terminal server.
Experienced with the Datacenter -48VDC power plants and rectifiers.
Cable fabrication (Copper and Coax Cables)
Terminating all type of coppers
Installation and testing of Fiber optics (Fiber testing dBo Loss)
IT/IP/networking experience preferred
Experience installing ADC DSX-1 and DSX-3
Experience installing Cisco MGX 8880
Experience installing Cisco 7609 Universal Routers
Experience installing Tellabs 5500 NGX
Experience installing ADC PowerWorx Fuse Panel
Other Requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Effective time management skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work under pressure
Ability/willingness to operate in a fast-paced, demanding environment and manage competing priorities
Must be willing to travel within the US up to 60% of time
Home base will be Fairfield NJ.
ADC Telecommunications Certificates Preferred.
Computer Skills (Microsoft Office - Exchange, Excel, Word, Power Pointetc.)
Ability to read datacenter layout diagrams, wiring diagrams etc.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
