Director of Development and Marketing

Summary of Duties and
Responsibilities: As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for leading the organization's fund development program, for building a culture of philanthropy within the organization, for maintaining and strengthening relationships with donors, for identifying new sources of funding, for oversight of the donor database and for overseeing the marketing outreach operations including special events.

Job Details and
Essential Functions:
o Supervises fund-development-related work of staff and/or volunteers whose responsibilities, such as donor recordkeeping, gift acknowledgement, and gift processing support the fundraising effort, whether or not such staff are direct reports. Manages all donor acknowledgement and recognition programs
o Assumes responsibility for all Development reports to the Board and other agencies, and attends all Fund Development Committee, HOF Management and other professional meetings
o Creates office systems to support all fund development projects and operations. Supervises maintenance of all fund development-related databases, records, and files; oversees gift processing; and ensures effective use of the donor management software, Raisers' Edge. Maintains security and quality controls in the management of donor database and records
o Develops implements and manages a donor acquisition program using the most current techniques.
o Oversees and provides professional guidance for special events created and conducted by Friends of Hospice
o Responsible for planning and implementing, executing and evaluating a program of special events to achieve strategic objectives. Some events are used to cultivate donors and others are to achieve specific objectives of the agency
o Advise, inform and make recommendations to the ED, Chair of Fund Development Committee regarding special event strategies
o Strategy development must include program theme, marketing approach, community invitation list, printed materials, timeline and budget, coordination of vendors and event volunteers and post event evaluation
o Provide on-site management of events to ensure that the program runs smoothly.
o Generate appropriate follow-up materials and correspondence including acknowledgement of program participants, financial and programmatic reports to appropriate granting agencies
o Distribution of photos from events and determination of their use in marketing and advertising materials.
o Enlist and involve volunteers, support staff, facilities personnel and faculty as needed to augment and support the special event activities
o Researches and seeks corporate and foundation funding and sponsorship as appropriate
o Coordinates donor research activities to increase giving
o Produces major donor solicitations/support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible
o Develops and implements a major gifts program using trained community volunteers to extend the reach of the organization
o Coordinates production of financial reports for contributed income from donor management software and reviews monthly financial reports with Director of finance to ensure accuracy posting of contributed income transactions
o Drafts and submits fund development-related policies for board review and approval.
o Develops and implements a strategic plan for a comprehensive fund development program
o Works with program staff and Board Fund Development Committee to identify potential funding-related projects as appropriate
o Implements and manages all fundraising activities for annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and corporate and foundation funding
o Supervises or advises the creation of communications that support the fund development effort, such as the annual report, printed case materials, and fund development-related presentations and speeches
o Produces fund develop-related content for website and social media networks. Works closely with marketing and outreach personnel to ensure consistency in messages related to fund development
o Delivers presentations on philanthropy and fundraising to help staff, the Board of Directors, volunteers understand the role of philanthropy within a hospice organization
o Directs and manages advertising and marketing projects and prioritizes the use of resources based on the agency's goals and objectives both long term and short
o Ensures that marketing plans and projects are on time and on budge
o Monitors, reviews and reports on marketing research, activities and results
o Develops an annual marketing plan that is consistent with the Boards strategic plan
o Applies effective copy writing skills and works with the marketing team and external stakeholders to produce materials that are well written and accurate
o Monitors and evaluates marketing efforts for effectiveness
o Manages website development and utilization
o Dedicates time and attention to personal professional development through trade organization networks
o Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee and participates in administrative call when needed
o HOF may assign the Director of Development to any workplace setting based on HOF needs
Knowledge and Skills
Required
o Ability to multitask and set priorities with very tight timelines
o Proven experience in designing and managing fund development programs
o Experience with developing and maintaining effective relationships with diverse constituencies.
o Well-organized with excellent time management skills; ability to think strategically and creatively
o Involved, or willing to be involved, in professional associations
o Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, donors, patients/families and community business people
o Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team
o Keen understanding of the psychology of giving in a healthcare environment, including the ability to communicate effectively at many different levels; to make funding/giving requests in a confident, but cordial manner; to exercise discretion and to observe confidentiality in all personal interactions; and to keep the organization's best interest in mind at all times
o Understanding of branding principles and multimedia tactics
o Strength in developing relationships with identified partners, groups, businesses with whom Hospice of the Foothills may have or need to establish affiliation
o Willingness to engage in continuing education opportunities to build or enhance skill level
o Proficient in Raiser's Edge

Education & Experience
Required
o Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Event Planning, or other applicable field of study
o 3 years professional fundraising experience with at least 1 year in a healthcare environment
o Prior supervisory/leadership experience
o 1 year experience working in marketing, advertising, donor relations or other relevant communications driven positions
Desired
o 3 years of event planning experience in a healthcare environment
o Keen understanding of the psychology of giving in a hospice environment
License / Certifications
Required
o Possess and maintain valid California driver's license, a reliable automobile and evidence of appropriate liability insuranceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
