Safety Representative
One of our clients, a Sand Mining & Manufacturing plant in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is in need of a Safety Representative to assist with managing the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all health, and safety programs.
This representative must verify compliance with regulatory requirements pertaining to Sand Operations, appropriately manage S&E risk, and sustain a safe workplace for all employees and contractors. The position will be a contract role, until further notice.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Promote and improve the environmental, health and safety culture.
Lead in the development and implementation of strategies, policies and practices to verify a safe and healthy work environment.
Identify, eliminate, and mitigate safety and health risks or hazards.
Develop, implement and manage safety policies and programs to verify compliance with MSHA and other global, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Work collaboratively with plant operations to bring solid S&E performance using a, balanced, cost effective, risk based approach.
Analyzes data to identify trends, develop and implement solutions, providing for continuous improvement of S&E related programs. Communicate, and sometimes produce, safety performance reports for plant and mining operations staff.
Verify and measure safety performance through regular plant and mine visits, conducting audits, and completing action item logs.
Effectively interact with management and operations employees to develop and implement solutions for facility and equipment, to eliminate hazards, while minimizing negative impact on performance.
Develop, conduct and document training that maintains regulatory compliance, and aligns with company expectations.
Lead and verify that comprehensive incident investigations are conducted, leading to effective corrective actions which are communicated back to operations.
Administer and initiate continual improvements for contractor safety assurance efforts.
Mentor and develop plant staff to further enhance safety and health performance.
Develops and implements or manages hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plans as appropriate.
Work in conjunction with Human Resources, to assist and reinforce the Alcohol and Drug-Free Workplace Policy for employees.
Work in conjunction with Human Resources on any workplace injuries, and assist with case management.
Qualifications:
Five years' experience in the mining industry managing health, safety and environmental issues.
Bachelor's degree or higher in occupational safety, environmental sciences, engineering, or other sciences.
Strong knowledge of MSHA, OSHA and other applicable regulations.
Have the ability to identify and work collaboratively with outside resources, experts and advisors to verify compliance with all applicable regulations and initiatives.
Well organized with the ability to effectively manage numerous tasks, both large and small.
Demonstrate effective collaboration, training and communication skills with employees and contractors.
Demonstrate ability to lead, implement, and facilitate change initiatives as an individual contributor.
Highly functional in MS Office and other software generally used by safety professionals.
Professional safety certification preferred; CSP, CMSP, or MSHA Trainer preferred, but not required.
