OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

This is a Part Time, 20 hour per week/40 hour per pay period position.
The licensed and registered occupational therapist provides direct service to referred veterans in all states of health and illness with specialization in the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) program.
The occupational therapist independently plans, develops, and implements comprehensive and complex treatment programs for individual patients and groups of patients.
Specialized patient populations may include hand rehabilitation, arthritis, spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, ALS as well as patients with other major diagnoses.
Services will generally be offered in the Veterans' homes.
This OT serves as a member of a multiple interdisciplinary treatment team.
OT represents Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&R) and provides expertise regarding specialty areas.
The OT represents PM&R in development of policy and procedure, quality assurance monitors, and the development of standards of care to ensure compliance with accrediting professional organizations.
The OT provides training and supervision of occupational therapy students as needed.
The OT exercises independent judgment and utilizes professional practices and ethics as guidelines to meet the overall objectives and priorities established by the Supervisory Therapist and Director of Home and Community Based Care and the Director of the Wilmington VA Medical Center.
The Occupational Therapist has the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a manner that optimizes patient care and outcomes.
The Occupational Therapist is directly responsible to the Supervisory Therapist and The Director of Home and Community Based Care.
Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist Include but are not limited to:
o Performing the initial and ongoing assessments of the veteran's functional status.
o Evaluating the veteran's home for the structural modifications needed to make the home environment safe and accessible, and performing the initial and ongoing assessments of safety in the home environmento Determining the need for home medical equipment (HME).
o Teaching and monitoring the safe use of HME devices (as appropriate).
o Reporting equipment problems to the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service.
o Teaching body mechanics to the caregiver to minimize risk of injury.
o Establishing a therapeutic program for the veteran and caregiver to maximize or maintain the veteran 's functional status, and monitoring the response.
o Supervising rehabilitation therapy student assigned to the HBPC Program.
o Collaborating with the team physician on patient needs for consultation with other rehabilitation services.
o Participating in MFH home inspections.
Providing recommendations to caregivers regarding home environment and/or any deficiencies found during inspections.
o Providing education and supportive guidance to caregivers during home visits.
o Collaborating with HBPC and MFH team members about the care of our veteransWork Schedule:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
