The Arora Group, Inc. (AGI) has a job opening for Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) to work in the Medical Laboratory at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, near Jacksonville, NC. This contract position provides medical care to Active Duty military members, their family members and retirees.
This job opening is for a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) working 8 hour shifts Sunday - Saturday, 8 hour shifts, between the hours of 5:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
DUTIES OF THE MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN:
Perform clinical laboratory tests in any one or a combination of areas as described in following sections of the laboratory: Hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology and blood bank.
Provide services in compliance with applicable military installation and Service written policies, procedures and regulations, as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR), AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks) , College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP), and Joint Commission (JC).
Accept patient samples, perform routine and stat blood bank procedures to include but not limited to: ABO/Rh, antibody screen, Direct Antiglobulin Test, antibody identification, cross-match, Fetal Bleed screen and cord blood studies on patient samples using both automated and manual methodologies. All work performed will be in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines.
Select appropriate blood products for transfusion; thaw, split, pool and relabel blood products as necessary; and, issue products to hospital staff following the appropriate approved policies and SOPs.
Perform equipment and reagent Quality Control; equipment maintenance; equipment/process validation according to SOPs, equipment manuals and validation plans.
Uses Blood Bank Management System to accession samples, report results, receive/ship/issue, blood products and to perform a variety of other tasks to include but not limited to: checking patient history, viewing/printing reports, inventory management, etc.
Ability to trouble shoot testing discrepancies and equipment malfunctions; selects the appropriate course of action when working up complicated antibodies and resolving other testing discrepancies/complications.
Calculate test results and measure prescribed quantities of samples during tests.
Notice pertinent details of specimens under microscopic study.
Perform a wide variety of laboratory tests either manually or using automated instrumentation.
Evaluate information against measurable criteria in the performance of laboratory tests.
Perform precise and accurate laboratory testing according to established laboratory procedures.
Receive written requisitions from health care providers for routine and special laboratory tests.
Set up and adjust laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Obtain laboratory specimens directly from patients by venipuncture.
Add reagents or indicator solutions, and subject specimens to various laboratory operations according to established procedures.
Prepare slides for microscopic analysis as necessary.
Observe test reactions, changes of color, or formation of precipitates; studies or subjects treated specimens to automatic analyzing equipment to make qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Record test results to flat logs and request slips and file reports in the CHCS/AHLTA
Bring to the attention of the section supervisor, pathologist or general laboratory supervisor any unusual or grossly abnormal test result.
Perform light general cleaning of work areas such as collection of trash, autoclaving of specimens, cleaning of bench tops and light dusting.
Prepare specimens for transport to MTF laboratory or for mail out.
Prepare biological waste for proper disposal.
Participate/perform the prescribed QC/CAP programs.
Qualifications:
Possess a minimum of one year of experience within the preceding two years as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
Be a graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
Possess certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or state licensure as a medical laboratory technician
Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for access to Government computer systems)
