Supervisory Inpatient Clinical Pharmacist (Evening Shift)

The Program Manager, Inpatient Care Services must be a licensed pharmacist who is responsible le to manage and coordinate comprehensive pharmaceutical care activities in an inpatient care setting for medical and surgical programs located within the VA Connecticut Healthcare System.
The incumbent operates on a broad delegation of authority with independence of action to coordinate all aspects of inpatient care pharmacy services to the medical center.
This position oversees activities where the incumbent has full and final technical/administrative authority over the work, which requires coordination and integration of work assignments with the other clinical centers and service lines.
These pharmacy activities include inpatient care to a variety of patients in specialized units such as medical, intensive care, surgical, psychiatric, and long term care.
Incumbent is responsible for developing, reviewing and enforcing all policies and procedures of inpatient drug distribution to the nutrition (TPN), chemotherapy and automated controlled substance distribution (Pyxis).
Incumbent is also responsible for the oversight of procurement of inpatient pharmaceuticals and supplies.
o Manages the unit dose and IV admixture distribution programs, consolidated inventory program, the drug accountability program and controlled substances program for the inpatient pharmacy section.
Coordinates with other departments and agencies to effectively maintain resource accountability.
o Establishes work schedules and allocates staff as needed to provide adequate coverage.
Maintains time and attendance records and approves leave.
o Assesses workload shifts throughout the day, identifying backlogs and makes staffing adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals.
Works with the Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisors to ensure continuity of patient care for patients being discharged.
o Functions as a Program Manager to the inpatient pharmacy regarding planning, directing, controlling, and coordinating comprehensive distributive pharmacy services.
o Effectively organizes workload directs inpatient activities, plans short and long range objectives/goals, solves problems, and achieves established goals within the budget and staffing constraints.
o Evaluates a wide variety of patients in assigned patient care areas and makes appropriate recommendations on drug therapy.
