Medical Support Assistant

This is a full time permanent position located in Health Administration Service for the West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texas.
Incumbent supports the administrative and clinical staff of by providing advisory and technical assistance primarily to veterans and beneficiaries who come to the medical center seeking medical treatment, experiencing problems or requesting information.
Incumbent serves as a key person, personally greeting veterans in need of assistance and determine the nature of the veteran's medical care needs, questions or complaints.
Incumbent notifies medical staff when potentially serious medical complaints are identified.
Incumbent determines Veteran's legal eligibility for medical care and counsels Veterans regarding aspects of eligibility for VA medical benefits.
Incumbent explains in adequate detail ineligibility for medical benefits, reasons for adverse decisions and how the decision is based on laws, regulations, etc.
Incumbent counsels inquiring or agitated Veterans and family members regarding problems or complaints.
Incumbent personally oversees and/or performs necessary administrative processing.
Incumbent obtains all key information and initiates processing basic requests and forms for special studies and ancillary services and scheduling.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a hybrid position.
Any selected candidates must submit experience and education information to a Professional Standards Board for pay setting.
Pay setting can not be set by the facility.
A recruitment/relocation incentive is not authorized for this position.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
