Senior Electrical Engineer


Gemma Power Systems is looking for a senior-level electrical engineer to support their home office Engineering group in Glastonbury, CT.
Responsibilities:
Report to the Lead Electrical Engineer and support Project Engineering Manager (PEM).
Interface with the Lead Field Engineer and other Discipline Engineers.
Review and comment on the electrical sections of the Engineering scope of work.
Review and comment on the Engineer of Record's electrical design, plans, and specifications, and prepare cost/constructability reviews.
Develop conceptual one-lines for the design criteria and any EPC proposals
Review and comment on the electrical testing specs and scope.
Review and comment on vendor drawings. Coordinate customer review of vendor drawings with the Engineer of Record if necessary.
Work with Project Engineering Manager to gain acceptance by the Owner and the interconnecting utility of the electrical one-line.
Make recommendations to PEM for cost-saving installation, operational and performance improvements.
Provide electrical technical interface to support Procurement.
Evaluate electrical equipment and material proposals, prepare bid tab evaluations for electrical equipment.
Assist with preparation of the purchase orders for electrical equipment.
Attend the major electrical equipment purchasing kick-off meetings.
Provide electrical technical interface with the Lead Field Engineer, Electrical Field Engineer, and Start-up Manager.
Be on-site for back feed and first energization to grid to aid in start-up.
Review and comment on the scope of work of electrical subcontracts.
Assist with receiving inspection of the major pieces of electrical equipment (e.g.: power transformers, substation equipment, and generators).
Review all instrument and control specifications
Attend electrical equipment factory acceptance tests.
Provide recommendations to the Electrical Field Engineer in preparation of Requests for Information (RFIs).
Carry over field labor-saving ideas into the design of the next project; participate in the Project Review Meeting at the end of the job.
Review electrical bulk purchases which deviate from Engineer of Record's specification.

Essential
Qualifications:

BS-Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineering License or able to obtain within 2 years (preferred)
5
years'
Experience:
Design of Medium Voltage and Low Voltage power systems
Some exposure with High Voltage systems (preferred)
Understand technical requirements for the following equipment:
MCCs, Switchgear, Power Transformers, Protection Systems, Cable/Bus systems
Applying IEEE, ANSI, UL, NETA, NFPA standards in the design of power plants and process facilities
Construction means and methods as they relate to power plants and process facilities
Understand Electrical One-Line/Three-Line diagrams, Electrical Schematics
Familiarity with control system and communications design including distributed control systems
US Citizen or Green Card.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills required. Must be capable of interacting with engineers, suppliers, and shop/construction personnel.
Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform all job functions
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word with working knowledge of ETAPEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
