About the Position: Libby Dam project has one of the highest performing workforces of any Corps field office. These dedicated employees manage, operate and maintain the dam, powerhouse, recreation areas, and Visitor Center. They also manage the water resources of Lake Koocanusa, a geographic area that receives over 300,000 visitors a year. Libby Dam is a multipurpose project responsible for hydropower generation, flood control, recreation, fish protection, and wildlife management. Libby is not only a large hydro producer, but is a large flood control project.

You will serve as a Painter applying a variety of industrial and commercial coating systems involved in the construction, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of hydroelectric power plant machinery, facility buildings, and equipment. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Paint project facilities and equipment such as switchboards, oil storage tanks (inside and outside), piping, generation equipment, air compressors, transformers, breakers, steel powerhouse superstructure, cranes, derricks, hand railing, grating, mitre gates, spillway gates, intake gates, bulkheads, stop logs, trash racks, machine shop equipment, powerhouse interior, offices, service building, furniture, signs and other items.
Wipe, wash, sandpaper, wire brush, scrape, flame clean or sandblast to prepare surface to be covered.
Apply pre-mixed paints, varnishes, lacquers, primers, enamels, synthetic enamels, coal tar enamels, elastomeric and other protective coatings.
Erect own scaffolding and staging to work from.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Screen-Out Element: Ability to do the work of a Painter without more than normal supervision. Qualified applicants must have the ability to perform routine painting work assignments using common and accepted trade practices, methods and techniques; and prepare and paint all types of surfaces using spray guns, brushes, and rollers to include the preparation of metal surfaces.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside for the powerhouse and other project structures. Is exposed to noise, extremes of heat and cold, confined spaces, height, inclement weather, dust, paint spatter, and harmful fumes from chemicals in paints and solvents. There is also exposure to hazards such as eye injuries while chipping off old paint and rust. Irritation of eyes, skin and respiratory tract may result from sandblasting, spray painting, sanding and dusting surfaces. Workers are subject to falls when working on ladders, structures and scaffolds. During application of spray paint or while sandblasting, or when working in areas where this equipment is being used by others, a respirator will be worn.
