The Research Technologist will conduct experimental research lab work and assist in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). The Research Technologist may complete mathematical calculations, and computer tasks and assist in judging validity of data. The Research Technologist will follow appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices.
The Research Technologist 2 position in the Department of Neurobiology, focuses on understanding the mechanism of learning and memory using animal models. More specifically, we are interested in how selected groups of neurons (neuronal ensembles) are recruited to represent a specific memory, and how they control the behavior output during the memory process. Our lab integrates molecular biology, imaging, optogenetics, behavior tests, and electrophysiology methods in our research. Lab duties include rodent colony maintenance, genotyping, brain surgery, behavior tests, and basic molecular technologies such as PCR and DNA cloning.
New start-up lab. May occasionally require working during evenings or weekends.
Specific Responsibilities
Follow protocol, design, set-up and conduct basic experiments.
Analyze and troubleshoot protocols and data obtained from individual experiments and recommend alternatives and suggestions to improve process, validity and accuracy.
A fully functioning level of understanding in the following skills is required but not a pre-requisite (training can be provided as needed):
Molecular Biology
PCR, RT-PCR;
Plasmid preparation;
Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA.
Histology:
Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining;
Immunohistochemistry;
Microscopy.
Animal
Breeding and screening transgenic mice;
Dissections;
Surgical procedures;
Database management of colony;
Animal behavior tests.
Maintain detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data; manipulating, interpreting and presenting results; preparing charts and graphs for presentations and publications. May perform scientific literature searches in support of research; complete portions of grant applications, manuscripts and publications.
May track and summarize lab supply expenses and verify accuracy of invoices. May order and maintain inventory of reagent, mice and lab supplies.
Complete other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors of Science in a basic science and no experience or 2 years practical lab and bench experience is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired;
Ability to follow research protocols, policies, procedures and regulations;
Attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience related to molecular biology, imaging, optogenetics, behavior tests and electrophysiology methods;
Rodent colony maintenance, genotyping, brain surgery, behavior tests, and basic molecular technologies such as PCR and DNA cloning.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
