# Job Description
CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Processing & Food Ingredients Division. We are looking for an Associate Process Engineer to join our growing team involved in the expanding field of soy protein isolates. You must be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written,and have strong analytical / problem solving skills able to work in a team environment and independently.
You will:
Work in a focused team to learn and assist in development of best practices and design of soy protein isolate processes.
Work closely with plant operations to evaluate existing practices against ideals.
Conduct assigned development, design and construct projects by preparing engineering calculations, drawings, material lists, construction schedules, and operating instructions with emphasis on achieving optimum processing efficiency, reducing energy and material costs, and adhering to safety requirements.
Plan, provide and implement engineering technology and supervision on all assigned plant projects and problems.
Conduct research and proper evaluation to ensure the most cost effective repair improvements are made.
Perform duties of Shift Supervisor in a training and vacation relief role.
Perform mass and energy balances, evaluate equipment performance, and perform statistical analysis of process and lab data.
Select and order equipment for projects and maintenance repairs.
Coordinate the communication for projects involving department managers and outside consulting agencies to keep everyone informed of project schedule, goals, objectives, and necessary equipment and manpower.
Effectively manage small to medium scale improvements projects and monitor the progress of projects to assure timely completion within the budgeted limits.
Learn and maintain a sound understanding of all processing equipment.
Up to 10% travel to other sites, including international, for evaluation and project execution will be required
Basic
Qualifications: (required)
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Food Science discipline.
One to 5 years of experience in process or project engineering in a cGMP food manufacturing environment. Co-operative education experience will be considered
Working knowledge of plant construction and construction & consulting organizations
Working knowledge of production processes, unit operations, and manufacturing equipment.?
?Working knowledge of applicable EHS requirements
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred
Qualifications: (desired)
Engineering in a food commodity processing environment preferred such as protein concentrates and isolates and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Knowledge of data analysis techniques, Root Cause Analysis, tools and application
Experience in batch chemical manufacturing. Relevant unit operations include reaction, filtration, distillation, drying, and extraction
Working knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing principles
Experience in process design, PSM requirements and capital project management
Experience with process modeling software such as Aspen Plus
