Position Description
SUMMARY
This position is critical in the execution of tactical job duties to satisfy internal customers, and communicate requirements to the supply base effectively. This position requires the ability to work closely with the material planning team to review material demand requirements, drive, expand and improve Kan Ban processes, and determine if material is required to be sourced and/or rescheduled in order minimize the level of on-hand inventory. Interaction with established, and/or potential suppliers, with regards to request for quotation; price and terms negotiation; order placement and tracking is required. The ability to work directly with material planning and identify opportunities for continuous improvement is vital to this role.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews material requirements through MRP forecasts and/or special requirements and initiates commercial action based on current needs analysis and inventory position
Works closely with MPA- business unit Material Planner(s) to ensure material is ordered within lead time to meet the scheduled requirements as necessary.
Initiates, enters and reviews purchase order entry in MRP, along with the daily maintenance of filing orders and communicating the orders to the supplier effectively.
Communicates directly with MPA to identify opportunities to continuously improve current purchase component inventory position and reduce costs through various ordering practices.
Key driver of Kan Ban process and responsible for adjustments to order quantities with input from MPA. Communicates opportunities for action to the Commodity Manager(s) and Director of Supply Chain. Responsible for continuous improvement actions associated with developing, expanding and maintaining an effective Kan Ban process.
Manages select consigned material requirements, replenishes levels and consumption reporting. Identifies opportunities to continuously improve methods to enhance VMI process.
Regularly reviews open orders with regards to changes in demand and inventory position, reschedules/cancels orders accordingly and corrects open purchase orders to update necessary changes.
Assists in maintaining supplier metrics for quality, delivery and pricing volatility. Escalates supplier issues to gain support from Commodity Managers and Director, Supply Chain if necessary.
Assists internal customers in providing cost and delivery information, obtaining samples, recommending products and/or substitutes, as well as short and longer term planning information based on supplier experience and job knowledge.
Prepares reports and assists in special projects as required by Director, Supply Chain. Assists the purchasing team in identifying opportunities that support continuous improvement initiatives and departmental goals.
Maintains necessary information and files to enable efficient operation.
Awards and prepares purchase orders and/or blanket contracts for capital equipment, inventory and non-inventory items.
Utilizes Approved Supplier List when ordering direct materials used in the production of saleable products.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associates degree from an accredited college or university with five years of detector experience related to components and materials. A good understanding of MRP, JIT, reorder points, Kan Ban, and VMI consignment processes for inventory control is critical. Requires sufficient knowledge of mechanical drawings and the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with several groups including (but not limited to) the following: machine shops, manufacturing and vendors.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. The candidate must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, vendors, and other internal customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentage, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts to basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of possible solutions in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must exhibit the ability to multi-task.
