General
Summary:
The Molecular Biology Technician will assist with the execution of scientific experiments that may include the effects of establishment aids, soils, maintenance practices, nutrition, pesticides and other experimental treatments on lawn grasses and other ground covers.
Primary duties may include:
Prepare trial areas for laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments
Prepare and apply treatments
Collect data and enter it into spreadsheets
Care for the test subjects, facilities, and test equipment
Key Work Performed:
Transplanting enhanced events from tissue culture
Propagating material for evaluation
Assisting with efficacy evaluations
Assisting with expression analysis
Maintain greenhouse
Overseeing greenhouse young plant production including planting, environmental monitoring, pest control, plant growth regulator applications, watering, feeding, and general maintenance
Executing garden research trials including preparing, planting, developing timelines for key trial activities, and overall caring for field trials
Collecting data, data entry, and photographs
Assisting with presentation preparation
Organizing and maintaining general laboratory and other experimental facilities standards
Qualifications: Education/
Experience:
Minimum high school diploma with experience in lawn and garden maintenance.
AS or BS degree in biology, agronomy or horticulture or industry experience in a laboratory, greenhouse or field setting are desired.
Skills and Abilities:
Attention to detail, accuracy and basic math skills.
Observational skills to identify visual differences in plant performance.
Ability to follow work instructions and test protocols.
Personal drive and ability to be a self-starter and work unsupervised.
Ability to lift 50lb required.
Ability to operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, utility carts, sprayers, spreaders and other typical equipment used to maintain lawns and greenhouses
Basic computer skills including: use of spreadsheets, word processing and email.
