## Position Description
Introduction:
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Financial Analyst.

Summary:
Member of a financial planning team responsible for budgeting and planning, financial analysis and reporting, indirect and direct rate preparation, capital planning and risk management. Provide modeling, special analysis and financial presentations to support Lab-wide decision making. Provide lab-wide coordination and direction to department fiscal representatives to consolidate information and process improvement.
Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
1. Long Range Planning, Budgeting and Analysis - Using a broad base of financial knowledge including analysis, problem solving and utilizing lab-wide resources to prepare and update financial plans and management metrics. Working as a team, assist in the coordination and preparation required to prepare the margin summary report and forward pricing rate proposal. Provide cross-functional direction to other team members and department fiscal staff. (30%)
2. Special Reporting - Develop reports by downloading, compiling, and using formulas from the various internal sources to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in support of the central laboratory management.(20%)
3. Rate Proposal Preparation and Management Reporting - Work as a team member providing support to develop and analyze rates. Provide cross-functional direction to department fiscal staff. Maintain and develop documentation to support the rate proposal process. (20%)
4. Special Projects - Participate and assist on a variety of Lab-wide and group process improvement teams. (20%)
5. Prepare and analyze data and represent Accounting and Finance during Director Office Reviews.(10%)

## Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BS in Business Administration, equivalent degree (Finance or Accounting concentration), or equivalent years of professional workexperience.
A minimum of 5
years of related professional experience in Business/Financial Management
Prior experience budgeting/financial planning, financial statement preparation, developing rates
Highly motivated self-starter with excellent problem solving with the ability to work independently leading teams and solving complex problems
Effectively communicate and present complex ideas and concepts to upper management and the department fiscal representatives
Ability to clarify and prepare answers to questions and issues within the broader fiscal community as needed
Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel)
Ability to analyze a wide variety of information and provide financial implications and recommendations
Professionalism and people skills necessary to interact effectively with financial planning team, executive management and department financial staff
General understanding of accounting, General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and planning systems

Qualifications:
MS in Business Administration.

years' experience consolidating financial information or financial reporting at the Organization level.
Prior experience leading and providing direction to financial professionals
Experience in Department of Defense (DOD) contracting environment with working knowledge CAS, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and DFAR
