Description: LSI seeks an part-time (up to 24 hours/week)Direct Support Professionalwithin the Services for People with Disabilities program to provide services in the Waterloo, Cedar Falls & Waverly area.
This position does have the potential to grow in hours; as more hours become available. The hours for this opening is primarily afternoon & evening hours (i.e. hours within 2:30pm-7pm) and occasional weekend hours as needed.
Duties: This position in our Supported Community Living (SCL) program supports, assists, and instructs learning independent living skills like money management, socialization, cooking, and personal hygiene to individuals with chronic mental illness or developmental disabilities in order to facilitate personal growth and independence.
Direct Support Professionals need to maintain knowledge and understanding of prevailing societal attitudes and the opportunities for person with disabilities to participate fully in the community. This position should know basics of outcome-based performance measures and develops Individualized Service Plans which are functional and reflective of goals of individuals served.
Hourly Supported Community Living (SCL) shifts last between 2-4 hours with a client.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with people with disabilities preferred. If working with consumers under the Children's Mental Health Waiver, one full-time year of experience is required (2080 hours).
This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
