Summary:
The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Ground Project Data Products and Algorithms (DPA) Integrated Product Team (IPT) is responsible for insuring that the JPSS Program and its component missions will produce Level 1 sensor data records (SDR) and Level 2 environmental data records (EDR) that meet performance attributes specified by the JPSS Level 1 Requirements Document. NOAA/NESDIS/STAR led science teams execute the algorithm science and software engineering activities. Raytheon as the prime contractor for the JPSS Common Ground System (CGS) performs integration and operational test activities. The science teams are composed of a diverse collection of government, academic, and contractor subject matter experts who work closely with the JPSS Ground Project and Raytheon to achieve mission success.
This activity requires calibration, validation, and maintenance of existing algorithms and development, implementation, and verification of improved algorithms, frequently incorporating state of the art remote sensing science. The staff member will support the JPSS Ground Project DPA IPT and interface extensively with the science teams, data users, and other elements of the JPSS Program.
Duties: Duties:
The successful candidate shall assist in the management of the development, verification, implementation, calibration, validation, and maintenance and of the JPSS Program-s science algorithms and associated data products. In executing these activities, the contractor shall (1) provide knowledge of satellite data use in operational meteorological and oceanographic forecasting, (2) provide knowledge of environmental satellite acquisition programs with an emphasis on algorithms, and (3) provide knowledge of NOAA operational data sources, infrastructure, and interfaces.
The successful candidate shall manage the Algorithm Change Process for the DPA IPT.
The successful candidate shall assist DPA IPT management in activities necessary for JPSS-1 mission success:
-Planning the verification of requirements for Level 2 algorithms and data products for the JPSS-1 mission)
-Serve as DPA IPT point of contact for the JPSS-1 Mission Manager
-Assist in review of ground project documentation with JPSS-1 effectivity
-Confer with the Program Scientist and JPSS customers and report on whether the JPSS-1 mission will meet their needs and expectations and make recommendations to improve customer satisfaction.
Qualifications: Required Education/Skills:
-M.S. degree in Meteorology, Oceanography, or other Remote Sensing science
-Strong knowledge of civilian satellite programs and their management and day to day operations
-Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate with small or large groups
-Long standing understanding of remote sensing algorithm design (e.g., calibration and validation)
-Prior experience with JPSS-DPA in the capacities described above would be considered very positively
Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter and work in the applicable government facility.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
