The Director, R&D; Franchise Strategy and Business Operations Reports to DePuy Synthes Global VP of R&D.;
As a core member of Orthopaedic R&D; Leadership team, the Director serves as key partner to the Global Head of R&D; to ensure alignment, accountability and focus needed for effective execution of Critical R&D; Strategies to deliver growth.
The Director, R&D; Franchise Strategy and Business Operations will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Leads R&D; strategy process - working in partnership with WW R&D; leader and R&D; Leadership team, assesses strategic capabilities and options, develop Strategy recommendations for LT and GOC consideration and drives key discussions/debate to reach conclusions. Contributes strategic input and operational expertise to R&D; mgt reviews, including scenario development, trade-off implications and the evaluation/assessment of capital improvement opportunities.
Partners with Portfolio Process and Systems leader to bridge portfolio needs with strategic capabilities and resources. Focal point for establishing knowledge of and relationships with other parts of J&J; critical to partnering or leveraging technology to bring new solutions to market. Partners with New Business Development team to assess external opportunities/options for consideration.
Drives R&D; Functional Strategic Planning process for R&D; LT in partnership with other key functions, to ensure robust, wellcoordinated , broadly thought out Strategic plan.
Works with Finance and other key functions to deliver a best in class R&D; strategic Plan.
Owns G&O; formation across the R&D; organization, ensuring alignment across R&D; to key initiatives, goals, strategies through shared G&O;'s and reporting of progress against those across R&D.;
Responsible to work with R&D; LT to develop LT charter, scope and meeting agendas and cadence. Ensure agenda driven membership, meetings and efficient/effective decision making; Monitor and Track action items and plans to ensure rapid follow-through and progress against commitments.
Build organizational knowledge of external trends in R&D; and best practices in Industry. Work with R&D; Leadership to apply where appropriate.
Responsible to consolidate and provide R&D; input required for Senior ad hoc management requests, monthly reporting, quarterly exec Mgt reviews , etc ., as requested.
Deep Experience, Technical Expertise & Business Acumen in Strategic Planning and execution.
Connected Partnerships, leverages relationships w/key constituents to deliver tangible results, clinical insights.
Pipeline Delivery, Successful Background in driving delivery of key leveraged support services to Product Development.
Demonstrate Solid Connect, Shape, Lead and Deliver competencies, with emphasis on Lead and Deliver.
Effectively manage in a matrix environment and demonstrate strong influence capabilities.
Demonstrated indirect leadership of major change initiatives.
Actively develops talent and Culture to achieve results.
Demonstrated effective Change Leadership and Change Management.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required. An advanced degree is strongly preferred, (MBA or PhD).
A minimum of 10-15 or more years of progressive experience ,including experience as an impactful leader, in a Research & Development healthcare technical environment, driving Strategic Planning and Relationships is required.
Experience and expertise in the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical or Regulated industry is required. Previous Medical Device experience is preferred.
Experience as an impactful leader, leading directly or indirectly cross-functional teams is required.
Demonstrated success in partnering and influencing across a Matrix environment is required.
Demonstrated ability to Connect, Shape, Lead and Deliver is preferred.
This position can be located in West Chester PA, Raynham MA, or New Brunswick NJ. Potential Travel: 30-40 %, Domestic and International.
