The Scientific Director, Immunology TA represents System Pharmacology and Biomarkers (SP&B;) to the Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Disease Area Stronghold as a Core DAS member. This Director Partners with Immunology TA leadership to establish and maintain world class scientific strategies for discovery and development of new therapies and diagnostics to better treat patients living with Rheumatoid Arthritis; Establish and maintain biomarker and translational plans for all Rheumatoid Arthritis clinical studies; Responsible for the design, implementation and execution of biomarker strategy and contributes to the development of protocols for all development indications; Develops projects that support biomarker development in clinical studies; Ensure that appropriate laboratory analysis, interpretation and reports are delivered to meet all deadlines; Partners with CDT and matrix groups for design and execution of Biomarker and TM plans; Works effectively in a complex matrix organization to evolve a world class RA portfolio. Partners with team leads, internal operations groups and external study investigators to obtain biosamples, generate appropriate datasets, and interpret study results and Ensure that all clinical and technical biomarker reports and contributions are delivered as needed.
Additional responsibilities include Partners strongly with internal Discovery, Disease Integrated Biology and Network Pharmacology colleagues and accesses key external scientists to evolve disease understanding, support biomarker goals and enable informed decision making across the RA portfolio and development process; Establishes a strong external network and scientific relationships allowing access to top investigators working to evolve an improved understanding of RA. Represents SP&B; and Immunology TA in external collaborations and consortia;
Establish and maintain a robust science background in Rheumatoid Arthritis disease area and biomarkers and diagnostics including currency and fluency in relevant technology areas and biomarker solutions; Ensure that studies are designed to collect the samples and data required to support biomarker goals, working closely with CDT leads, GCO and study investigators to obtain and analyze the samples, and to interpret the study results for inclusion in clinical study reports and publication; Responsible for overseeing the development and qualification of assays for the assessment of these biomarkers as well as delivering data on assay results for clinical trial samples; This includes identification of disease-relevant biomarkers as well as interpretation and presentation of the results of the analyses in manuscripts and appropriate reports - clinical study reports and biomarker study reports; and Drive timely sharing, publication and presentation of results as appropriate.
Qualifications
This position requires a PhD in a relevant field with focus on immunology including rheumatology or gastroenterology. Seven years experience in Immunology drug discovery small and large molecule with a minimum of three years experience working in the biomarker field are required. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required. The ability to work in a matrix environment with cross-functional teams is an asset. Supervisory experience is preferred. This position may require 10-15% annual travel (domestic and international).
