OVERVIEW
This position is located in the Instrumentation Analysis, Metallurgy and Metal Properties Branch, Laboratory Division, Quality Assurance Office, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, ME.
GS-07: 42,406- $55,132 PER ANNUM
GS-09: $51,871 -$67,427 PER ANNUM
You must be a US Citizen. Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance. Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation. Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. You must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
The duties at the full performance level are:
Plan and conduct chemical and instrumental studies of complex and difficult nature supporting regulatory requirements.
Adapt and develop new approaches and methods; apply new techniques to analyze materials.
Provide chemistry oriented technical advice to and work close coordination with nuclear engineers, radiological control personnel, project and production personnel and other chemists, naval and civilian administrators and state and federal regulators.
Plan, coordinate, directs, schedule and implement tests and conduct projects.
The incumbent at the GS-07/09 levels will be given assignments and training to perform a full range of duties to advance towards target position. Incumbent applies basic chemist s skills and knowledge to perform assigned work. The incumbent at the lower grade levels will be under close supervision and receives more detailed instructions. This position has known promotion potential to GS-12.

Qualifications:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements and specialized experience listed below:
A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR
B. Combination of education and experience--course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to theGS-05grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Selecting appropriate methods and procedures to carry out analyses and tests.
Selecting samples, finding discrepancies and solving minor problems.
Assisting with performing scientific analyses in support of projects.
Locating and selecting appropriate guides and references to apply, making routine decisions and refer situations requiring significant deviation to the supervisor or higher graded Chemists.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE for GS-07 :_ _Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: One year of graduate level educationthat included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics or superior academic achievement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-09: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to theGS-07grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Assisting with performing chemical analyses.
Assisting with coordinating, scheduling and implementing tests conducting projects.
Assisting laboratory personnel solve problems and assisting co-workers and other in sampling and testing of materials.
Assisting higher graded chemists with chemical and instrumental studies to support regulatory requirements.
Assisting with creating and maintaining quality control and quality assurance data.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE for GS-09: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

Work Environment : Work can involve prolonged standing in the laboratory areas and some work is performed on surface craft and submarines which require physical coordination and stamina to perform in place testing of existing material in confined areas at unusual heights.
Physical Demands :
Work involves regular and recurring exposure to irritant chemicals ad ionizing radiation and incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. The chemist is required to use protective clothing and gear such as fume hoods, safety glasses, facial shields, gloves, dust respirators and anti-contamination clothing in these work areas.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
