Job Description:
Responsible for coordinating and implementing staff development activities including orientation, in-service and continuing education. In conjunction with department managers, provides supervision, instruction, assessment and evaluation of orientees and students. Coordinates the Continuous Quality Improvement program. Assists with the development and maintenance of Surgical Services competencies. Develops policies and procedures and maintains hospital and department policy and procedure manuals. Monitors and collects credentials of all Surgical Services staff.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Develops and coordinates continuing education and in-service programs based on staff needs. Collaborates with Surgical Services management in planning and implementing programs, and may, at times conduct these programs.
2. Plans, implements and evaluates orientation of new employees and students. Collaborates with Surgical Services Assistant Head Nurses, Charge Nurses and Service Leads to make assignments for orientees.
3. Provides input into probationary and annual performance review of Surgical Services employees.
4. Develops and revises criteria to evaluate employee performance and unit-specific competence.
5. In collaboration with Surgical Services Director, Assistant Directors, and Assistant Head Nurses is responsible for standards and quality of nursing care.
6. Monitors credentials of all employees and maintains credentialing files.
7. Assists in developing and maintaining current and complete policy and procedure manuals.
8. Coordinates the continuous quality improvement program for Surgical Services including identification of areas for improvement, development of monitoring/data collection tools, analysis of data, developing corrective action plans and reporting of activities to the Provision of Care Committee and Surgical Services staff.
9. Develops and recommends education budget for Surgical Services.
10. Represents Surgical Services at hospital committees as invited or assigned.
11. Serves as a perioperative resource to staff and other hospital departments.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of the variability in expected values and care required by pediatric and adolescent patients as applicable to Surgical Services.
13. Maintains clinical skills and current knowledge of clinical trends.
14. Performs all other duties as assigned.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
