Position is being advertised concurrently under ATL-2014-0623, for a USGS Pathways Temporary Intern to apply to a Pathways Career Intern. If you qualify, and you are interested in applying under both announcement numbers, you must submit application packages for each.
What are the Eligibility Requirements?
In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program you must meet the following requirements:
You must be a recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years, an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution such as an accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. Note: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that's part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.
Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation shall have a 2-year period of eligibility to apply that begins from the date of release or discharge from active duty; however, the veteran's eligibility period cannot extend beyond 6 years from the date of graduation.
The Presidential Executive Order for the Pathways Programs was signed 12/27/2010 but the final regulations weren't issued until 7/10/2012. Because of this delay, individuals who graduated between 12/27/2010 and 7/10/2012 will be eligible to apply under the Recent Graduates Program through 7/10/2014. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. The duration of the Recent Graduates appointment is a trial period. As an Administrative Operations Assistant within the Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Reviews purchase requests; use financial systems; interprets and applies contract and procurement regulations; manage the bankcard program; manage vehicle program; property management; Receives telephone calls and greets visitors, directing them to the appropriate personnel; and operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.
The U.S. Geological Survey has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

The Recent Graduate Program lasts for 1 year. Participants who successfully complete the Recent Graduate Program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment or a term (1-4 years in duration) appointment without further competition.

For GS-05: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Example of GS-4 level work: Performs a full range of assignments consisting of related steps, processes or methods; responses differ in nature and sequence; requires knowledge of an organization''s programs and operations, rules and processes. Exercises initiative in completing recurring assignments; uses judgment in selecting appropriate guidelines and procedures from among a number of specific references.
For GS-06: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Example of GS-5 level work: Performs standard and nonstandard assignments involving different and unrelated processes or methods in varying sequence; work requires extensive knowledge of rules, operations, or business practices. Follows accepted practices in resolving nonrecurring problems and meeting deadlines; completed products are evaluated for effectiveness in meeting goals; extensive guidelines in the form of instructions, manuals, and regulations are applied.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
