The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) seeks a dynamic and energetic student to join its team and gain valuable work experience as a student intern (Office Automation Clerk) in the Pittsburgh, PA, Big Stone Gap, VA, Knoxville, TN, and Lexington, KY.
The purpose of the Pathways Student Intern Program is to provide interns with exposure to public service enhance educational experience and provide financial support to encourage and support educational goals. The program is formally structured to give interns the opportunity to work in positions related to their academic/career goals. Participants will complete assigned duties, tasks, readings and developmental activities as specified in the program. Selectee is on a trail period while on a Pathway Internship appointment.
Students will work full-time in the summer. Students are normally placed into a non-pay status when they return to school each fall, then returned to work the following summer.
This is a temporary, excepted service appointment under the Pathways Intern Program that is expected not-to-exceed September 30, 2014. This appointment may be extended until the selectee''s educational program requirements have been completed. After successful completion of the program requirements, the individual, may at agency discretion, be converted to the Competitive Service. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Personnel Security Investigation is required. Must be at least 16 years old (by closing date of vacancy announcement) Must meet Pathway Program Eligibility Requirements. Must submit a transcript/proof of enrollment/acceptance. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. As an Intern, you will serve in a trainee capacity, performing routine and recurring development assignments to acquire knowledge and understanding of functions, principles, practices, and methods used in the area of administration.
You will perform the following duties:
Use written or oral notes to prepare correspondence, memos, vouchers, technical instructions, etc. with responsibility for format, typographical and grammatical accuracy, and conformance to procedures.
Type a variety of material involving complicated formats and spacing into final form material which often contains technical terminology.
Refer to guidelines and and use discretion in solution of these solutions.
Receive incoming reports, correspondence, etc. Handle routine inquiries and may draft replies of a non-technical nature.
Collect or excerpt material to be incorporated into the final copy from reference material, the agency''s library, etc.
Prepare material occasionally tabular or graphic for dissemination to government and non-government agencies.
Use office machine for preparation of correspondence, reports and briefing materials.
Scan and electronically organize and file office documents.
Receive callers, visitors, and mail. Screen callers and visitors and refer them to appropriate person.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY :
Student may be eligible for conversion to a Career Conditional Appointment under the Pathways Internship Program, if they have:
1. Completed education requirement and 640 hour work experience.
2. Graduated and received degree, certificate, etc.
3. Met the qualification standard for the position.
4. Met any agency-specific requirements specified in the Participant''s Agreement.
5. Demonstrate successful job performance that results in a rating of record of at least Fully Successful and a recommendation for conversion by the first level supervisor; and
6. Maintained at least a 2.5 GPA.
This is Excepted Service appointment. Pathways Internship Program participants may be non-competitively converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service. /Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
