Purpose
This Specification defines the steps required to perform the duties of Technical Manager.
2.0 Scope
This Job Description applies to 2 facility of the Automotive Experience business of .
3.0 Responsibility
Directs and coordinates all technical aspects with the manufacturing process including manager responsibilities for Process Engineers, Process Techs, Tooling Engineers, and Tooling Technicians. Provide support to all manufacturing and processing areas in the plant. Support CI and Quality improvement initiatives. Coordinate technical training and support from corporate launch resources, and drives processing improvements. Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers. Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies required for operations. Initiates and authorizes employee hire, promotion, discharge or transfer.
4.0 Process
4.1 Essential Duties
Ensure proactive, and reactive when necessary, improvements in the processing area. Work with QA and Production to ensure we are responsive regarding customer concerns, PPMs or warranty claims.
Develop, implement, change, and enforce all maintenance procedures for molding equipment to conform to TS16949, ISO 14001, and company guidelines.
Job functions must be performed in accordance to EPC Environmental Health & Safety policies, programs, and procedures.
Supports and promotes EPC Core Values and Quality Policy.
Supports the production floor, engineering department, and launch on any tooling issues.
Lead the plant in all processing of new equipment and tooling for launches and transfers.
Participates in all projects launch meetings, design review meetings, surveys and helps in the outside tooling sources.
Suggests design improvement for parts and tools.
Assists production with tool and processing problems.
Maintain complete list of equipment and their capabilities within the plant
Maintain up to date plant layout.
Work with corporate capacity planning group on space and machine time availability
Survey and make recommendations for new tooling sources.
Evaluate and make recommendations on new technologies and equipment to keep the plant on the leading edge.
Directs internal/ external tool shops on all tool repair, and improvements.
Follows company Policies and Procedures including safety procedures. Reports any safety deficiency to immediate supervisor.
Manages and leads injection molding technical team including: PE, ME, and tooling teams.
Responsible for reporting personnel evaluations; accessing effectiveness of technical abilities, team working skills, leadership potential while providing career guidance / Smart Goals in-line with Operational Plans ( I.e.: Cost Reduction Goals, Quality-Delivery-Cost of Launch Performance, Safety, On-time Evaluations.)
Reviews, mentors and establishes contingencies/justifications for: CAR's, Capital Budget Expenditures, Personnel/Salary plans.
Provides input for Business Operating System changes while; maintaining appropriate leadership behavior (I.e.: Mentoring/Coaching through groups or 1 on 1's, influential within supporting groups and operations, walks their (well planned) talk, accepts and encourages diversity in skills / culture, maintains accountability consistently.
Other duties as assigned.
4.2 Physical Effort
Ability to sit or stand for 2-3 hours before a break.
Ability to lift and carry approximately 30 pounds.
Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and heavy equipment.
Ability to work in extreme conditions of heat (90-115 degrees).
4.3 Mental Effort, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to use computers word processing, spreadsheet, and CAD software.
Ability to work unsupervised.
Good time management skills.
Strong people skills.
Good communication skills - both verbal and written English skills.
4.4 Recommended Training/Education
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology.
Ten to fifteen years or more experience in injection molding processing required.
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
Proven leadership skills
Candidates must demonstrate solid skills in communication, interpersonal relations, and ability to inspire individuals to improve performance.
Work flow, line balance and tact time
Understanding of injection molding processing, including scientific molding concepts.
eDart experience highly desirable.
Hands on experience with injection molding machines, robotics, and auxiliary equipment
Proven mechanical aptitude for analytical problem solving
Experience with various injection molding technologies (e.g. mold behind, two shot, gas assist, insert molding, robot programming, etc.)
Experienced in injection molding facilities layouts and facilities systems (e.g. material convey, process water, material drying, etc.)Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
