Under direction from a Director of Sourcing/Supplier Management, the Sourcing Manager establishes and drives sourcing initiatives, risk mitigation and strategic sourcing savings across multiple manufacturing plants,supporting one of three Covidien medical supplies business unit franchises (Monitoring/OR, Sharps or Nursing Care) in North America. Position is a strategic partner to the sites Operations management teams by effectively identifying and delivering franchise-specific supplier risk and mitigation strategies, quality improvement initiatives, cost reductions/avoidances, cash flow improvement, lead time reductions, New Product development, cost out or value engineering projects, and achievement of key supplier agreements and continuous improvement goals across their assigned plants. Responsible for managing staff and direct/indirect spend for the business franchise.
Drive Sourcing Strategies/Savings
Develop and implement supplier specific cost improvement programs yielding at least YOY savings of 5.5%.
Execute sourcing strategies as agreed and aligned with sites' operational plan deployment and ensure timely resolution of critical supply issues
Assess the current supplier base; identify functional management needs, collaborate with commodity management team to map strategies, and work with suppliers to negotiate major RFP's and build appropriate agreements (STA, LTA, NDA's) to meet those needs and leverage volume.
Work closely with site management to achieve raw material, subassembly and purchased component goods cost reduction and inventory targets through supplier contract terms, supplier negotiations, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) strategies and/or utilizing 3rd party logistics, where appropriate
Ensure early involvement of sourcing in New Product Development (NPD) projects
Project Management, Metrics & Reporting
Responsible for managing key sourcing metrics, including sole source reduction, LCC expansion, PPV and delta P deflation
Develop metrics for supplier performance and conduct supplier business reviews. Lead supplier based VATF and OPEX initiatives.
Create sourcing presentations for executive review. Prepare annual and quarterly Operations review for executive steering committee.
Responsible for site specific direct materials spend for the franchise; research and understand cost drivers of relevant markets and recommend strategies for improving the overall supply chain value proposition
Drive supplier development and operational excellence activities to eliminate waste from the supply chain process.
Work closely with Site Supplier Quality to lead site level compliance to quality and regulatory policies related
to supplier management, and monitor/ correct supplier issues.
Ensure activities are performed in compliance with Quality System and Covidien compliance policies in regards to health, safety and environment/waste disposal.
Process Improvement & Relationship Management
Partner with Sourcing Excellence to develop processes, standardize work streams and best practices sharing
Partner with Global Commodity Management Team and help implement strategies at the business specific site level. Work with Site controllers and commodity management teams to develop budget standards for assigned raw materials.
Maintain and promote sound relationships with suppliers, utilize sound negotiation and value strong analysis skills to reduce overall costs and increase cash flow
Staff Management
Hire, coach and reward 3-5 salaried individual contributors remotely.
Manage and assess team and individual performance to drive improvements in lead time, delivery, inventory, quality and innovation.
Identify development opportunities and provide timely feedback to ensure effective management and continuous performance
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance or related major; Master's degree a plus
Certification from the Institute of Supply Management (C.P.M.), Project Management
Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 10 years progressive experience in Strategic sourcing, commodities or supplier management in a medical device manufacturing environment (or similar highly regulated Lean manufacturing industry)
Project management, new product introduction, stage-gate process and product lifecycle management experience highly desirable
At least 5 years' experience managing staff, preferably remotely
SKILLS
Proficiency/expertise in Microsoft Office, Power Point and MS Project applications.
Demonstrated knowledge of the latest supply chain management techniques, strategic sourcing, inventory management, contract management, and Lean Sigma.
Working knowledge of SAP systems, Cognos Spend Analyzer, Spend manager, Ariba, SPM Agile, Emptoris, manufacturing processes and understanding of design and quality requirements as they relate to components and assemblies.
Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills to adequately analyze, interpret and resolve complex supply chain situations
Demonstrated effectiveness in leading cross-functional teams.
Proven success in vendor negotiating and facilitation.
TRAVEL: Up to 10-15% within U.S./CAN (Corporate & other plants)
