Quality Inspector Job Description
The job duties of the Quality Inspector will generally be considered to encompass but not limited to the following:
Quality Inspector Job Purpose:
- Maintains quality standards by approving incoming materials
- Performs First Article, In-process inspection and finished products inspection.
- Records quality results.
- Performs calibration of inspection equipment
- To manage the entire QUALITY SYSTEM
Quality Inspector Job Duties:
- Inspects incoming materials by specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
1) Contact vendors in regards to cost credits or RMAs
- Approves first article by confirming specifications per supplied prints, conducting visual and measurements tests, communicating required adjustments to Shop Forman and or set-up machinist.
- Performs in-process inspection by confirming specifications per supplied prints, conducting visual and measurement tests, communicating required adjustments to Shop Foreman and or set-up machinist.
- Approves finished products by confirming specifications per supplied prints, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products to the shop floor for re-work (if required), confirming re-work (if required).
- Document inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizing re-work and scrap, inputs data into Quality Database.
1) Maintaining a Quality Database
a) Updates continuous improvements.
b) Logging and maintaining a history of every job ran and their matching quality records.
c) Taking pictures of finished products and loading them into the E2 system as a product reference.
- Coordinate with Office Manager in dealing with RMAs/credit request.
- Maintains calibration records and frequency of calibration updates.
1) Call for service if equipment is in need of repair.
2) Orders or researches quality gauges that would be needed for production.
- Contact customers and suppliers when dealing with quality issues and/or non-conformance requests.
- Review and recognize potential quality concerns during the job estimation process (for new projects).
- Able to manage multiple projects.
Skills/Qualifications
- Prior Quality Control/Quality Engineering, preferably in a Job Shop environment.
- Quality Technician/Quality Engineer certification would be a plus.
- E2 Shoptech experience would be a plus.
- Proficient in using basic inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, height gauges, plug/ring gauges, thread gauges, protractor).
- Proficient in using CMMs (Brown & Sharpe manual CMM would be a plus).
- Proficient with Calibration Software ( Gage Trol , Gage Track).
- Proficient in basic computer software (Microsoft Windows XP Office, Excel).
- Multi-tasking skills are a must.
- Must have strong communication skills.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
