Gerdau is currently seeking a Sr. Product EngineerMetallurgist for its Monroe, MI facility.
Position Overview
Provide technical expertise and support to both external and internal (operating areas, process engineers, sales, and technical service teams) customers. Work closely with process engineers in failure analysis, improving the quality of products, and elimination of problems. Interpret technical specifications and work closely with pricing quotations and product design process. Assist Quality Assurance and Lab Technicians in clarification of testing protocols and disposition of products. Assist plant in development and implementation of standards.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for identifying and solving metallurgical problems.
Perform as customer technical liaison.
Dispositions product
Obtain all metallurgic specifications.
Initiate and control flow of quotes.
Initiate customer claims through inside sales when contacted by customer
Oversee trial orders
Assist in resolving customer claims
Develop new product applications.
Assist in determining and eliminating the root cause of nonconformance's that are found at the division and/or with the customer.
Assumes the duties of Chief Metallurgist in his absence.
Responsible for following department rules for safety, discipline, and work procedures within corporate management and quality guidelines.
Responsible for following the Cardinal Safety Rules.
Utilizing the Gerdau Business Systems and EMM concepts.
Responsible for completing all required annual safety and environmental training (inc. fugitive dust).

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in related field (i.e. Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering with ferrous metals background) required
Master's Degree in related field a plus
5
years' experience in Process or Product Metallurgy OR proven university materials based curriculum (Master's candidates will also be considered, commensurate with a high level research engagement in steel manufacturing and processing)
2
years' experience within a client facing/servicing role
Strong skills/expedience with MS Office applications (MS Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint) required
Customer specification knowledge and metallurgical testing knowledge required Steel manufacturing experience strongly preferred (research in steel processing and/or steel manufacturing applicable)
Exceptional written and oral communication skills required
Ferrous metallurgy knowledge
Ability to multi-task and problem solve
Quality systems understanding (TS/ISO) a plus!
Some overnight travel for client visits required (approximately 10%-15% of the time)
