Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT), a leading innovator, marketer and producer of quality branded products for the pet, lawn and garden supplies markets, is seeking a Director of Sales - East to work in the Eastern Region of the United States.
This position is responsible for setting, managing and achieving the sales and profit objectives of the company's eastern region. This includes direct/indirect management of current retail Pet Distribution customers in the independent pet channel through an outside/inside sales force. Our customer base includes single unit retailers, regional multi-unit retailers, as well as customers in alternative channels. Additionally, the position is responsible for developing new business opportunities inside and outside of the traditional Pet Specialty channel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop sales management and territory manager talent base
Develop and maintain strong customer/vendor partner relationships
Aid in building vendor relations that result in strategic advantages in the field with customer and vendor base
Lead planning process and establish strategic objectives with key customers and business unit leaders within the scope of business assignments
Manage both revenue and margin requirements through effective P&L; management
Develop sales performance goals and effective measures necessary to meet established goals and objectives
Lead growth and improvement of business profitability and asset management by focusing sales efforts on strategic customers
Develop sales strategies and tactics to increase market share, revenue and profit
Improve strategic positioning of products
Ensure sales and marketing strategy coordination across entire region and common customer base
Play an integral leadership role within the Leadership Team
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION
Minimum undergraduate degree in business or marketing preferred
Successful tenure inside the Pet Specialty channel required
Successful experience in a fast-paced sales and marketing environment
Proficient in MS Office; advanced Excel skills desired
Strong interpersonal skills, solid judgment and the capability to communicate effectively to a diverse range of individuals
Broad functional experience in areas of strategic planning and marketing, business and market development, market research and planning, and promotion/advertising
Leadership skills necessary to drive profitable growth in a pet consumer products business, with goal of annual double digit growth
Thorough understanding of three step Wholesale Distribution and all related activities.
Ability to operate effectively in a sales management role that emphasizes creativity, motivation, innovation, and an entrepreneurial spirit
Strong strategic and marketing skills with broad-based experience in marketing/sales, customer service, distribution, finance and operations
Strong analytical sales skills married with strong relationships
Previous product launch negotiation skills and the ability to develop relationships with retail customers, resulting in strong retail partnerships
Excellent communication skills including the ability to interface with all levels of the company and represent the company to major customers.
Willingness/ability to travel throughout the eastern US as needed
Must have personal integrity and a solid results orientation.
