Description
Works as a member of PRO Business Unit development / commercialization engineering team to produce world class products, which meet or exceed company and category expectations with regard to brand integrity, design, product innovation, functional performance, and return on investment. Manage deadline adherence to all seasonal development and commercialization milestones. Contributes to the research and implementation of new and existing materials, components and shoe making techniques in order to aid design and advance the innovation of the product for the assigned category. Collaborate with Product Management to establish achievable seasonal calendar product creation milestones.

Experience: 10+.
Bachelors Degree in an Engineering or Sciences discipline, Industrial Design or an equivalent of 15 years experience in design and/or development of consumer products with minimum 8 years senior level footwear development, engineering or Biomechanical Testing experience. 10
years of footwear product development experience preferably within the safety/occupational footwear sector, with a focus on brown shoe or technical outdoor arena. A plus if has had prior involvement in advanced concepts. Proven capability in developing innovative footwear products with a passion for new products and proactive problem-solving experience. Experience with a PLM / PDM (Product Data Management) system is a must. Experience with Footwear Certification to Safety Footwear Standards (ASTM, CSA, EN-ISO) or equivalent compliance certification is a must.
Skills:
Basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook. In addition,
Last Development software, CAD, Illustrator or Corel Draw is a must.

Special Requirements:
TRAVEL - Travels to manufacturing locations, development centers and suppliers
to ensure footwear product integrity is properly executed. Travels to occur 4-6 times per year to manage problem solving of seasonal development projects and demonstrate leadership capabilities in decision making and communication back to team in Stratham.
Approximately 25-40% domestic and international travel, including development
centers and vendors to oversee the execution of footwear creation /
commercialization process.
Additionally, travel to trade shows and Customer job site locations necessary for understanding functional/occupational needs and keeping current with future trends in R&D as necessary.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Maintains the daily development / commercialization activities with respect to assigned projects to achieve seasonal and non-seasonal project results from conception through completion of approved confirmation standards. This entails the advancing of product specifications through development milestones, tracking model fit samples, confirmation standards, costing and leather standards in order to reach weekly/monthly deadlines. Works as a member of the development team to maintain product integrity with respect to safety footwear pre-certification at each milestone; Competitor product benchmark tear downs, traction analysis, at conceptual/line close/sales meeting stages as applicable; and any unique end use requirement(s). All to be completed with Innovation / Efficiency responsibilties for related whole shoe, materials / component and process Innovation focus. LAST and Safety TOE CAP Development - Works Design and extended PRO product team to initiate and oversee the development of lasts / toe caps based upon desired aesthetic, performance, comfort and fit while maximizing use of existing PRO last / toe cap library and for PRO brand fit consistency.
TECHNICAL PACKAGE DEVELOPMENT - Analyzes specifications, materials, construction, fit, pattern and process at each stage of the development process providing input as needed to ensure fit, function and manufacturability. Actively participate in all product related milestones, from seasonal kick-off through commercialization.
UPPER PATTERN DEVELOPMENT - Executes against strategy for components and manages upper development for yield, manufacturability, fit, functional performance, cost and desired aesthetic throughout product creation process. . MATERIALS and COMPONENT Development - Coordinates and maintains material and structural specifications as well as the follow through on the testing of each individual component to maintain Timberland standards for quality, type and durability with regards to compounds, construction and mold type. MOLD Development - With design look for opportunities to utilize existing PRO and/or Timberland BOTTOM tooling. Manages mold development conformance from initial drawings through confirmation of sample size, including Extreme Size bottom molds. Validation includes responsibility for optimizing sole design in support of Slip / Traction requirements. FOOTWEAR DEVELOPMENT to be executed in meeting Industry Safety Footwear Standards to ASTM, CSA, EN-ISO and
COSTING Objectives - Manages costing objectives as outlined by Product Manager and works with design to achieve Category Cost / Margin goals. This entails supplying necessary information needed for pre-costing exercises during review of product briefs, through Tech Package development and final pricing of confirmation standards.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
