_Duties and General Functions:_ This position provides drafting support to the Air Vehicle Modification and Instrumentation Facility located at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, Point Mugu, CA. The Design Drafter prepares complete sets of complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings. Drawings or models include complex design features that require considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray. Assignments regularly require the use of mathematical formulas to draw contours or to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, etc. The Design Drafter originates designs from concepts, prepares drawings of unusual, complex or original designs which require a high degree of precision. He/She performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness and drafting and design expertise. He/She assures that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation and operations are resolved by the drawings produced. The Design Drafter exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design, provides guidance to lower level drafters, and serves as a coordinator and planner for large and complex drafting projects.
_Other Experience, Skills, Requirements, and Information:_
The applicant must demonstrate a minimum of 8 years' experience performing the functions above which must include parametric modeling experiences and/or classes. The applicant must be proficient in the use of Creo or PRO/E software (or equivalent- Solidworks, Inventor, Unigraphics, IDEAS) Note: AutoCAD is not considered ''equivalent''. Typical assignments may also include:
Develop production Mechanical drawings from existing Creo solid models.
Create parts list for production drawings.
Identify parts and processes (fasteners, epoxies, material, painting, etching, anodizing, chem film, etc) used to create assemblies.
Locate sources of supply and order parts used in materials.
Identify sources and work with fabricators to have parts and assemblies manufactured.
Assist in solving manufacturing issues as they arise.
Work with configuration management to have drawing packages checked and approved.
Assist with acceptance testing and qualification testing as needed.
_Education Required:_
The applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of trade or technical school, or undergraduate or military school course in drafting, mechanical drawing, or engineering drawing.
In lieu of post-high school education/training, the applicant must have a total of 10 years' experience in performing the stated functions.
_Clearance Requirements:_
Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and hold a Secret Clearance.
