Job Description
The Director of Engineering provides excellent service to our customers, shareholders and employees by successfully overseeing the operations of the Company's Engineering Department to ensure compliance with Company standards of capital projects and to provide customer and employee support services related to company operations.

Responsibilities:
Lead the Engineering team, including direct supervision of Infrastructure Rehabilitation Manager, Senior Engineer, and Engineering Associate, and work closely with Service Delivery Team.
Responsible for developing long term department strategy including staying up to date on rules and regulations and compliance, and understanding how those will impact the Company, and developing a plan to be ahead of required changes. Work with other departments to ensure department strategic initiatives match the Company strategy.
Connecticut Water is committed to compliance in all areas of the Company. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for ensuring compliance in their areas, as well actively participating in the internal committees responsible for safety and compliance.
Manage, either directly, or through directing the work of others, construction capital spend, infrastructure of pipe and road, facilities, and other constructions. Work closely with Finance, Service Delivery, Water Supply and Planning, and others as needed to ensure project construction priority and spend aligns with Company strategic plan. Maintain oversight of all Company design, construction and major maintenance activities including participation in planning and budgeting thereof.

Actively participate in industry groups, such as the AWWA standards committees.
Represent the Company at various federal, state, and local levels to provide information on areas of expertise as needed to establish and maintain positive public relations with key customers, local officials, state and federal regulators, other state agencies, elected officials, and industry groups.
Direct the work of the team to maintain standard design and materials specifications for materials, including water main, valve, and hydrant and service line installations. Work closely with Procurement to make certain that the requirements of equipment are known and adhered to.
As Director, responsible for either directly, or by directing the work of others, managing all the technical services, including, but not limited to, SCADA, GIS, Asset Management, and other service delivery support technical functions. Ensure that the functionality meets the Company needs and the requirements of the regulatory agencies.
As a leader in the Company, this position will also support and lead other Company and Department initiatives.
Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Connecticut Professional Engineer License (PE)
Minimum of nine years' experience.
Knowledge of operating a water system from supply to distribution.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of Hydraulic Modeling and Design.
A valid driver's license is required.
This position requires demonstrated leadership skill and the ability to interact positively with employees, customers, public officials and regulators.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrated experience retrieving data, performing analysis and presenting the data in an appropriate manner to others.

Work is primarily indoors with prolonged sitting, but will also include and require the following:
Exposure to indoor and outdoor settings, potentially extreme heat, cold, wind, or humidity.
Exposure to sufficient noise to cause employee to shout above ambient noise level.
Potential exposure to vibration, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, toxic fumes, hazardous chemicals.
Frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small-enclosed rooms, permitted or non-permitted confined spaces and narrow aisles or passageways.
Occasional walking, bending, climbing and kneeling, and rarely requires squatting and crawling.
Occasional balancing, repetitive motion, lifting, pushing and pulling.
Occasional exertion of force up to 50 pounds, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Occasional dexterity skills including feeling, grasping, reaching, and fingering.
Continuous hearing, talking, seeing as well as the ability to read, comprehend, problem solve, reason and concentrate.
Must be able to perform the physical functions required to operate all the necessary equipment to perform the functions of the job described above.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
