Conducts a variety of laboratory tests and duties according to established laboratory procedure, and in compliance with Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA ''88), and Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) regulations, while working under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Director.
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Practices only within the boundaries of competence, based on documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Provides health services of a scope, quality, and quantity consistent with Cherokee Nation policies. Collects laboratory specimens such as urine, blood, etc., and ensures these specimens are collected at the proper time and patients have received proper instructions and/or preparation. Determines adequacy, identification and appropriateness of specimens according to test procedures and the laboratory''s specimen acceptance/rejection criteria. Performs specimen testing and prepares specimens appropriately according to test procedure being performed. Maintains integrity of specimens. Performs and documents quality control. Resolves technical problems and takes remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory''s established performance specifications. Ensures that patient''s results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly. Calculates and arranges quality control data in a meaningful and concise manner. Operates and maintains laboratory instruments according to established protocols. Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and standardization on all instruments within an established time frame. Keeps accurate and up-to-date records of such performance and quality control checks. Recognizes any malfunction of instruments and takes immediate corrective action to restore proper operation of the instruments. Notifies clinicians when test results will be delayed. Follows all safety policies and procedures including but not limited to general safety, hazardous communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan and Blood Borne Pathogens. Adheres to professional ethical standards. Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal, tribal and/or state regulations. Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client/patient, unless authorized in writing by the client/patient or required by law or court order. Complies with the applicable state and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety and confidentiality of any health services record created, maintained, transferred, or destroyed, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and less than one year of specialized training or education related to Medical Laboratory Assistance School or Medical Laboratory CME.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Three years experience in a related field performing moderate or high complexity testing in a Medical Laboratory.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid driver''s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must be a Registered Certified Laboratory Assistant, Medical Laboratory Assistant, or Phlebotomist Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or American Medical Technologist or equivalent and maintain throughout employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Embraces and implements the Jobs/Language/Community Cherokee Nation Strategy. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
