MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus three years of professional engineering experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master''s degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.
A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of the required experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of required experience.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Engineer 3 by the scope of assignments and responsibility for several engineering programs for a department such as planning, safety, and communications.
Differs from Engineer 5 by the absence of responsibility for direct supervision of engineers.
Examples of Work:
Inspect existing facilities and the related mechanical and electrical systems and equipment in order to prepare recommendations for repairs and/or improvements by physically viewing the premises and making comparisons to design and construction standards.
Consult with construction groups in order to prepare special requirements necessary for the proper functioning of the facilities.
Reviews economic justification studies for proposed facilities and checks computations and analyses of cost benefit considerations. Manages and executes engineering planning, project control and management, and specialized program administration.
Administer safety, communications, resource planning, and quality assurance programs.
Perform the most complex engineering reviews of construction jobs in progress and checks for adequacy of supervision given by contractors and architects, materials used, and proper installation and operation of equipment.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
