Knoxville based company seeking a Certified Medical Coding Specialist to evaluate medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the International Classification of Diseases Manual - Clinical Modification (ICD-9, ICD-10), and the American Medical Association''s Current Procedural Terminology manual (CPT); provides technical guidance and training on medical coding to physicians and staff; and performs related duties as required. Responsibilities Include but are not limited to: - Verifing codes for accuracy depending on diagnosis obtained. - Evaluating medical record documentation and coding to optimize reimbursement by ensuring that diagnostic and other documentation accurately reflect and support the patient diagnosis, and to ensure that data comply with legal standards and guidelines. - Interpreting medical information such as diseases or symptoms, and diagnostic descriptions in order to accurately assign and sequence the correct ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT codes. - Maintaining all necessary updates in coding system. - Providing technical guidance to physicians and other departmental staff in identifying and resolving issues or errors, such as incomplete or missing records and documentation, ambiguous or nonspecific documentation, or codes that do not conform to approved coding principles/guidelines; educates and advises staff on proper code selection, documentation, procedures, and requirements; identifies training needs and conducts training for physicians and support staff to improve skills in the collection and coding of quality health data.
Qualifications: Coding certificate/diploma in medical coding and billing is required. Hospice experience is a plus. Knowledge of: Medical terminology; Excellent computer knowledge; EMR knowledge; CPT; ICD-9, ICD-10; HCPCS; and Insurance reimbursement guidelines. Ability to: process large volumes of information on a constant basis; Manage time; Research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; maintain working relationships with physicians and other staff. This is a long term indefinite assignment in a nice business casual environment.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
