Guardian's Science and Technology Center, in Carleton Michigan, was opened in 2000 and continues to develop innovative glass products for the residential, commercial, and interiors applications, as well as, the transportation, solar and electronics markets.
Guardian Industries is currently searching for a Product Development Engineer to be responsible for leading the engineering activities in support of the Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) product line. VIG is an advanced insulated glass technology utilized in architectural and commercial markets globally. This position will be housed at Guardian's Science and Technology Center in Carleton, Michigan and will report to the VIG Platform Director. The ideal candidate will have a technical or engineering background coupled with a manufacturing process development expertise. The selected individual will become a design and process expert for the VIG product line. This expertise will be utilized for optimizing the VIG pilot line prior to first line implementation, technical support during implementation and on-going product and process development. Additional key responsibilities are as follows:
Understand both product and process requirements for the VIG product line.
Define, execute and analyze development plans for product and process design.
Develop test methods and equipment to support test plans.
Utilize statistical analysis to develop experimental conclusions and provide recommendations to senior leaders.
Use Six Sigma and Lean tools to resolve issues, identify opportunities for improvement and reduce costs.
Define product and process specifications based upon successful completion of a development plan.
Integrate knowledge developed in to FMEAs and control plans to ensure future product quality.
Facilitate testing with international test facilities
Job Requirements :
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and traits:
B.S. / M.S. Chemical Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Material Science
Minimum of 5 years of technical experience (product and / or process)
Working understanding of glass as a material and fenestration products
Ability to utilize statistical methods and analysis
Six Sigma and LEAN manufacturing understanding
Familiarity of testing standards (ANSI, ASTM, etc.) and external, internal testing facilities
Ability to work with team members to analyze problems quickly and logically in order to develop effective solutions and corrective actions while managing conflict.
Experience and exposure to working in large scale manufacturing operations
Must be able to take charge and lead with assertiveness while building trust and confidence.
Demonstrated ability to record project decisions and actions, and communicate project status to key stakeholders on a frequent and consistent basis.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, this position will require 25%-30% travel.
