Position Scope
The asset services and substation automation systems group in Raleigh, NC facility is looking for a Substation Automation Engineer to support the Siemens customers in the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of substation automation systems and applications that incorporate Siemens or other vendors' substation automation products. Develop new application solutions with IEC61850. Technical support and troubleshooting on Siemens supplied automation systems.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Design, development, implementation, testing, commissioning of substation automation systems
Implementation, testing, commissioning of protection systems/schemes
Communication network design and configuration
Interface with customers, including trouble shooting and commissioning support
Provide technical back-office support for the sales/proposal organization
The candidate will be required to travel to project sites
Required Skills
BS in Electrical Engineering, MSEE is preferred.
Applied knowledge of
Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and trouble-shooting
Communication protocols such as IEC61850, DNP, or Profibus, as well as SNMP or OPC
Solid knowledge of at least one of the following vendors'' substation automation products and associated software packages: Siemens/GE/SEL/ABB
Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
Minimum two years experience in the Protection and Control Engineering field.
Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills.
Prior experience in the power industry, including applied knowledge of electrical engineering, schematics, one and three lines
Adept with Microsoft Office Applications
C Programming and/or Visual Basic language experience
Optional Skills
Knowledge of ANSI standards, IEC standards.
High Voltage, Distribution and Generation applications experience, working for Utility and Industrial customers.
Knowledge of at least one of the following vendors'' relay products and associated software packages: Siemens/GE/SEL/ABB
Technical knowledge of numerical protection relays and applications
Computer technologies knowledge
Professional Engineer license
Drafting abilities using AutoCAD
Microsoft Project
Project Execution experience
Team Lead/Project Lead experience
Panel Design and Test
