Parsons seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Fairfax,

washington
, DC Road and Highway staff as an Associate
civil engineer
. The successful applicant will join a highly successful and growing team of engineers and planners working on some of the area's and nations most prestigious projects and will have the chance to develop their planning, writing and engineering skills to their full extent including roadway, drainage, and 3D design in the development of highway, bridge and rail projects.
Under supervision, the successful candidate will apply technical professional proficiency to the investigation of engineering problems, the coordination of project activities, and the preparation of plans and documents for projects in preliminary to final design phases. On design assignments, this person will progress toward learning how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings, specifications and proposals. On engineering and planning assignments, he or she will continue to develop knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to client projects. The successful applicant will be required to uphold engineering ethics and standards of conduct.
Typical duties and responsibilities of this position are:
Designs and develops plans and drawings using CAD Package, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings.
Organizes and conducts engineering investigations and planning work which have a well-defined scope. Outlines and prepares relatively straightforward reports of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional.
Researches feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
Contributes to the development of specifications and permit applications, and writes miscellaneous reports.
Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
Coordinates with other disciplines as required.
Assists with the writing and development of technical proposals.
Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
Prepare deliverable as specified in the scope.
Conduct Field Studies including obtaining missing information relevant to the project.


Qualifications

The appropriately qualified candidate will have the following core competencies and required
Experience:
4-year degree in Civil Engineering and 0-3 years of related work experience. In addition, an Engineer-in-training (EIT) would be preferred.
Experience in the preparation of roadway design plans and signing and pavement marking plans is also desirable.
Technical writing,
computer
and communications skills required.
CAD and in particular Microstation experience is preferred.
The ability and comfort level with learning new and advanced software applications
General office productivity software competency is required.
A valid driver's license and compliance with Parsons' vehicle policy is required for all positions in which you are required to drive for business purposes.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
