M1 ABRAMS Tank System Maintainer The M1 Abrams is the mobile armored might behind the Army National Guard and the M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer is a vital member of the team that keeps the tanks running and operating properly. The M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on Abrams tanks. Specific duties may include: diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions; performing organizational maintenance and on-board direct support tasks on the suspension systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, auxiliary power units, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, and gas particulate systems; and performing organizational maintenance on vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system, and fire control system. Job training for an M1 Abrams Tank Systems Maintainer requires 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training.
