The Peer Education Program Associate will work as a temporary part-time member of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) team from mid-March - May 30, 2014, where he/she will assist with the implementation of the Peer Education program, aimed at educating young people about IHL directly and beyond the classroom. Knowledge of international humanitarian law required and a strong interest in international issues, public international law, human rights and international relations or related fields is essential. This position will report to the Director, International Humanitarian Law.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE
:
Working with the Peer Education Program Officer, the Peer Education Program Associate will be expected to:
Provide support to the IHL Action Campaign program and other IHL-related initiatives targeting youth directly.
Support the organization of the IHL Youth Symposium.
Support the organization of the Global Refugee Simulation and Conference.
Develop educational program tools (educational resources, toolkits, webinars, training, guidelines for chapters, partners, etc.).
Maintain contacts with ARC Chapter focal points or youth coordinators, as well as potential external partners.
Manage the visibility of the IHL youth initiatives through social media.
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in education, social science or related discipline preferred.
Minimum of 3 years related work experience with progressively increased responsibilities in a related youth education field, working in direct contact with young people, preferably with diverse youth in urban centers.
Demonstrable experience in project management.
Demonstrable experience in developing education material for young people and external partners.
Demonstrable experience in designing and facilitating training.
Ability to organize heavy workloads, manage competing deadlines and priorities.
Good knowledge of international humanitarian law.
Creativity and ability to see new opportunities.
Must display flexibility, adaptability, initiative and teamwork.
Must possess strong personal integrity and ability to adapt to changing situations.
Foreign language skills, particularly Spanish, are highly desired.
Selected candidate must be legally allowed to work in the US without any need for Visa Sponsorship now or in the future.
