Responsibilities: o Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security; o Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users; o Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline; o Considering both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users; o Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model; o Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements; o Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS); o Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act; o Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata); o Controlling access permissions and privileges; o Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans; o Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly; o Capacity planning; o Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and web developers; o Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security; o Commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.
We are actively speaking with applicants that have a minimum of: o Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. o Communication, teamwork and negotiation skills. o Problem-solving and good analytical skills. o Familiarity with the main data manipulation languages and the principles of database design. o Flexibility and adaptability. o Good organization skills. o Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure. o Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and/or customers. o Business awareness and understanding of business requirements of IT. o Willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology. o Commitment to continuing professional development. o Understanding of information legislation, e.g. the Data Protection Act.
